"chickenman",

If you call that "simple", sure wouldn't want to know what you'd consider complex!?

I plan to build a pond in the near future and the area where I will be digging is thought to have lots of arrowheads in it. Anybody got good ideas how to build a sifter that won't damage the arrowheads? I'm afraid that a metal screen will chip them.

Maybe some type of shaker table like they use in gold mining? But more like a vibratory screen? Would be very slow going.

I plan on building one as well.

My thoughts are to use my vibratory tamper in a basket attached to the screen to get the "movement" of materials.

There was a post I posted a while back (if you search under my name) where someone posted a link to a pretty simple commercial one that used that basic concept.

Thanks charlz and alanb, I like the shaker/vibratory idea. That might prevent damage from rolling down a screen and being bashed by other rocks. I could probably use a metal screen after all, but I still might try to figure out some kind of a plastic? screen.
Good ideas are never hard to find on this forum.:)

I did a search on the board and came up with 6 to 8 or more threads on the topic.
These 2 are my favorites.

Hi all,

When I was reading through some posts at the "CountryByNet" site, one of the members mentioned something about having to get busy sifting some dirt through his dirt screen; that made me think about this site. Some of the projects I've seen posted here are really clever and ingenius, so, has anyone ever made a dirt screen to be used/moved/driven by the tractor?

Thanks,
Ray

here's a simple one i built to sift stones

Chickenman,
What happened to the large tube you had mounted on it to sift the dirt out and the rocks drop into the box on the back? After searching for the post about your rock picker, I finally found the picture and it isn't quite like what I discribed in the previous post of mine, but just as close as that picture you posted. I really liked the tube spinning effect.
