Ouch! I could have 30 acres done for that price from a guys that know their machinery inside and out.

Yep.. that is why I don't want to call him back to do more work.. The last time I got the 13 loads to spread, I borrowed a friends bob cat and spread the dirt, but needed to have the dirt disked into the original sand, and it may have taken 30 min for him (guy w/tractor) and he charged me $250 for that... CRAZY....

I'm not made of money.. and these trees dont have it growing on them either...

Another tool to break up the soil allowing for better drainage is a subsoiler. You would need a very small version, but it is a single knife type blade that you slowly pull at 10-18" depth to break up the hard pan. After that you can use the disk to turn the top 6" of soil to mix in sand you add.

Down here is South Louisiana!... I hired a guy who owns his own tractor and figured i'm a girl.. so he could name his price.. becuase I needed the work done. That is why I am going to do the rest myself. I just about wanted to grab him off the tractor to show him how to do it since he could understand what I wanted him to do when I asked him to clear the land.. I had to call my horse trainer (guy) to come and tell the tractor guy exactly how to do it.

Understand Katrina and the experience.

Have you found a tractor dealership you are comfortable with? They can be some of the most helpful people there are. But they are like hiring someone, some are great and some are anything but and they treat boys that way also. Buying equipment can get very expensive. Even the best of dealerships want to and have to sell equipment. A good one will help you on what you need and what all can be done with each. You will find out there often is at least two implements to do a job and you have neither. But you will have one that will do it not as fast or such but will work fine. That has shown up in some recommendations here. If you are new to tractors (especially owning them) an indication of a great dealership is they will find out what you will be using it for before they try to sell you anything. I hope I never forget the first such salesman. He really got on my nerves for he would not even talk about a tractor until he understood what I wanted (not easy for I was not sure either). Tommy was the best. Years later his advice is often remembered and still correct. Hope you find such. kt

I would think a light duty (like a KK with angle iron) 5' disk would be just right for a 19 hp tractor in a riding arena. It does not sound that 'tillage' is the issue and that the disk would be functioning more like a harrow than a plow.

I agree. I completely missed the fact that you were talking about a riding arena - totally different scenario.
