Disc Mower

Cowboydoc,
Deere guys can not stand to be #2 in anything. They pay more for their equipment and pay more to fix them and then brag about how much they spent to fix the Green Paint. Deere doesn't claim to be #1 in round baler sales. They are close to being #1 in all baler sales in North America but that includes small square and large square balers. I'll bet you have green sunglasses.

Mark,

No offense intended… but why don’t you just stop beating around the bush and post some source material we can all read with our own eyes and make our own analysis and determination…? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sometime back you stated that Kioti was number 3 in tractor sales… then when I asked to see this in writing, you told me it was “private”, when I asked you again… you “blasted” me on this forum… /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif (and now you're doing the same thing with Cowboydoc...) /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Another member basically asks a simple question to see the facts as “you” stated them… instead you skirt the issue again, as you seem to do all the time… after a while it becomes somewhat incredible to believe…/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

What’s so difficult with supplying this information? I’m sure our national security won’t be placed in jeopardy… /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Mark, it's no secret on this forum that Cowboydoc is a John Deere fan, that he lives and works near John Deere headquarters, etc., but that doesn't change a thing (of course I think he also still has some non-John Deere equipment, too, which also makes no difference). Lots of us give our "opinions" about things (hope I've made it clear when I was giving an opinion vs. a documented, provable fact). And your opinion is just as good as ours, and I think you're more than welcome to post your opinions, but when you state something as a fact, I cannot imagine why you would be reluctant to provide all of us with the source that proves you're right.

Yes I'm a John Deere fan and I don't what you mean about fixing stuff. It costs to fix anything!! The reason I buy and like John Deere is because where I'm at I can buy John Deere cheaper than anything else and get it worked on just as cheap as anyone else's shop rate. Besides most of my work I do myself. I also have alot of patients who work for John Deere and I try and support the businesses that support me. John Deere is also one of the #1 employers in our area. Not to mention the fact that I do believe they produce a quality product. I am not too happy about them going to other countries to produce some of their products but that's not the point of this conversation. If JD is #2 then hey that's fine but show me where it says that.

As far being #1 it clearly states in all of John Deere's literature that they are #1 in sales of round balers. Every brochure that is out there on round balers states it.. So yes Deere most certainly DOES claim to be #1. This is why I've asked where your numbers are coming from because it isn't what everyone else's numbers in the industry are saying.

BTW I have black Oakley's for sunglasses. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yes I do Bird. I've got that Gehl skidsteer and quite a few woods implements.

Mark,
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well and I do mean that.

Yep, hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. We have a big family get together planned, so I'm sure we will.

Yep. Still interested.

Looking for something cheap since it will not get tons of use. Probably 60 acers a couple times a year.

Only limitations are that the cost is low as possible and can be run with 70hp (engine).

How many of you own disc mowers for cutting hay?
What brand do you like and what would you be looking for?

I am thinking about a used 7ft new idea.

Hello Fred--NI is a shaft drive unit--I run a 9 ft First Choice (Fort) machine -it is gear drive and easy to maintain---from years of experience and looking back on so many of the mfgrs droppong the "shaft drive" in the last 3 years and listening to my customers input, I have determined that gear drive is better and parts interchange is much better between mfgrs. Off the top of my head, I can only think of Lely, NI,Zetor that are still making shaft drive. I think M&W jumped the shaft drive ship this past spring?---ken sweet

Fella's new design is shaft drive.
Lely & Vermmer are the same in 3 point disc mowers.
Lely started & patented the shaft drive concept in the early 1980's and many have tried to re-engineer around the Lely patents. Bush Hog tried and quit. New Idea for a while sold a relabeled Lely but in the mid-90's teamed up with Comer to make their current mower. The Zetor & Fella designs are different concepts than that of Lely and NI .

When it comes to disc mowers it is best a customer purchases from a dealer that stocks parts. The more experience in disc mower repairs a dealer has helps the customer more than you might think. That dealer will usually adjust the mower properly in the assembly process. All 3 point mowers have a balance adjustment and this is not always set properly buy dealers. This will cause safety trip problems and poor mowing results. The customer does bare the responsibility to proper tractor mounting and adjustment. Often a farmer has two tractors and the same mower adjustment may not be correct for both tractors.

Realize that most disc mowers have the capacity to mow at speeds up to 12 MPH. Now with a cap tractor with and distractions like a radio and a cell phone those rocks and fencepost jump out at operators faster than they can react. With the blades traveling 3000 rpm, something will break and one wants something to break outside of the cutterbar not inside the cutterbar. Yes all the mowers have a safety release and this really helps but does not insure 100% control of mower damage.

Find you a good dealer that has sold more than 3 or 4 mowers.
