I do a lot of custom mowing and I end up with plastic hay string wrapped around cutting heads. My question does anyone out there have any tricks for easy removal, other than just cutting and pulling each piece out? This is extremely time consuming! Is there any ideas, thoughts, inventions to keep twine from wrapping all the way up against spindle? Once the plastic heats up it melts and makes removal just that much more difficult.

Remove it before you mow it! Otherwise, a good sharp utility knife, a pair of wire cutters, and a good pair of pliers is all I know of that works. I have used the hooked roofer's knife with good success too. I often get it wrapped around my axles when moving round bales and just have to keep up with cutting it off.

Agree with RNR... it's going to happen regardless unless you walk the field with a fine toothed comb beforehand.

Another thing that I've found that gets wrapped is horse tail hair; it's a cumulative thing and just as annoying as the bits of hay-mesh that gets wrapped.
