Discount at Lowe's

Fellow veterans and Gentlemen;

First of all let me thank everyone here who served in our armed forces even one day. I have a brother-in-law that didn't make it thru Parris Island because of a medical issue, but I still honor his decision to serve.

A few days ago I was looking around in Home Depot and talking with a very knowledgeable sales agent. I liked what I was looking at, but being a high-priced item, I mentioned I would wait till a federal holiday to receive my 10% veteran's discount. He promptly retrieved a read a memo that has JUST come out with the exact same terminology as Lowe's.
Soo, same discount applies at Home Depot!!!

First I would like to say thank you to all who have served our great country. Your service and sacrifice will forever be appreciated. For those who have not served in the military, I suggest going to your local U.S.P.S office and picking up a mail-fowarding packet. The current packet contains a 10% off coupon for purchases at Lowes. I have found that Home Depot will honor this coupon as well.

Unfortunetely I live in the communist state of NY. I cringe at having to show my VA ID card to some pimple faced Kid, and have to explain how I got disabled. I know a lot of vets, who feel this way.

I think I'll mention this discount to my Tractor Supply store. Could be a chance of a discount there. They have some kind of special going on there right often. I'll tell my sister about the Home Depot discount, too. She shops there some too.

Thanks for the other money saving tips.

I appreciate what these companies are doing for us too. It makes me feel special.

I am truly sorry you feel this way.
I personally do not require any request for the military discount to show an ID.
To be sure, there are a number of individuals out there that would take any opportunity to exploit an offer given in good faith to thank the people who willingly place there lives on the the line to insure our grantedly taken freedoms ... but no I will not ask for proof. That is for higher powers to assess.

However as a thankful associate of your neighborhood Lowe's, I would love to see your pride in displaying your service to this glorious country I call home!

Can't say enough nice things about the Lowe's in Lacey WA...

They had a sale several days after I bought a major appliance... I called and was transferred to the store manager... he said that he couldn't give me the sale price and military discount... I told him that I didn't use a military discount... so he went ahead and gave me the sale price.

Last week, I was working on a plumbing problem and got to the store 10 minutes after closing... an employee was checking the parking lot and asked what I needed... I told him that I didn't realize it was so late... he offered to let me in and the store manager opened a register just so I could buy a gate valve...

I live in the land of Home Depot in the SF Bay Area and don't think this would have ever happened back home...

Lots of military shop Lowes and the store is very supportive...

To be fair, the Olympia and Lacey Home Depots were also very accommodating... I guess it really depends on where the store is located and local management.

My Father is a Veteran... I wonder if the family member inclusion would apply?

I don't know how many retail establishments do it now, but when I lived in Grand Forks, ND after I got out of the Air Force in 99, Arbys, checker, and I want to say advance or auto zone would give you a certain percent off if you showed a military ID. Most retail establishments don't advertise/promote the discount but if you ask they may give you one. I remember after 9/11 happened there were all kinds of retail establishments that had some kind of discount for the active or ex military. I don't have an ID card so I just show a copy of my DD214 and I've never had a problem at Lowes.

A few days ago a Lowe's checkout lady told me that she was not allowed to tell any customer about this discount, but she was happy to give the discount if we asked for it. As gtrippleb was talking about, I wonder who else gives a vet discount if we would ask for it. I know if I am traveling, most motels give me a $10-$20 discount for military service, if I ask. That usually gets me and my wife a free supper.

I thought I would bring this thread back for a couple of reasons.

First, maybe a few people that are vets missed it the first time around.

Second, my local Lowe's has posted a memo saying they will not accept a DD 214 or an American Legion card for the discount anymore except at advertised military discount days. I don't know about other Lowe's stores. I was wondering if you guys without a card could take your 214 to your local VA Medical Center and have an ID card made. The VA hospital where I go for health care does the paperwork and picture for ID cards, but that's for people receiving benefits. I don't know if you could get an ID card without being eligable for benefits of some type. It would be worth a try if your store stops taking your 214.

All veterans are, or will be eligible for benefits at some time or other. I got my card a number of years ago, and found that when I did need it, things went a lot more smoothly than they would have if I had waited to get the card until I needed it. I encourage all Veterans to go through the process of getting the card, and getting at least a little bit aquainted with the local VA. This helps the VA get the funds they need at specific places to care for the vets they could be responsible for. There is no way they can know how many vets are in their area of responsibility if vets don't "sign in".

Good advice, Chuck. My ETS was June 74, and I signed in at my VA hospital a couple months later. When I started needing health care, I was accepted without any trouble. Several of my friends, who served about the time I did, waited till lately to ask for health benefits and they were told they had too much income for care. Seems there was a law change in 98 or so that put a cap on income for non service connected health problems.

Yes, been there done that. Found Home Depot was a lot easier to deal with then Low's when it comes to Vet discount. Check it out.

10% discount all the time at Home Depot. Found Va clinic. took an hour with dd214. 6 days later got my photo id VA card. Great!

backdoor,
This does not stop you from getting the Va card. It just means you have a co-pay when you use benifits. The Va well not refuse benifits. You just have to pay a little if you make a ton of income. If you still can't pay the co pay, that means, according to the government your living beyond your means (down size). Basically the government wants everybody to have the same amount of money. Oh, you say you worked hard for it. Your stupid. I'm stupid too. Don't you get it, it's the new USA.

Be happy, NOT!
