Thumb Discount Backhoe Thumb

I am looking for a thumb. Some time in the future I hope to convert it to hydraulic control. Is this unit good for that?

It is made of t100 and many are made of ar400? Does t100 stand up to the needs as well as ar400 and is there a problem with welding it?

I found some priced at around 430$ fully assembled. Are the kits really worth the welding time and trouble or is it better to get one of the preassembled ones?

I'm not a welder, but from what I've heard and read, the t-100 is excellent quality and shouldn't be difficult to weld at all. Someone posted that all the parts are a little tedious to hold in place, but not terrible for someone with welding experience. I know that there are models on that site that do work with hydraulics, not sure if all of them do. There have been a couple of posters who said they were very happy with it. It's just something I came across and negociated a discount for TBN memebers, I haven't purchased one yet as I'm possibly going up in size and will wait until then. John
EDIT: As for buying the premade or kit, if you feel that welding it would cost too much, or be too aggravating, it may pay to buy the premade. Only you can decide that though. John

Al, I'm actually considering a DK45 cab model to add to my CK20HST. If I'm going up, I want to make a big difference! John

How hard did you have to guess that since I said cab model? LOL /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Yes, it HAS AC!! AND HEAT!! And windshield washers!! And all those goodies. Of course, it's a little down the road, but hopefully not too far. John

As a recent poster stated, this company now offers a completed BH thumb for sale, and apparently is still offering TBN members the $20 discount.
Seems to be a pretty good option for those of us with smaller tractors, and that anyone is willing to give us a resonable little break is icing on the cake.
$20 may not seem like much, but they are giving it off the published price, so it IS something that at least helps defray the shipping cost.

KiotiJohn, A fixed or hydraulic thumb could be a great addition to my CK20HST TLB. I have tons and tons of rocks I could move more easily with a thumb. I have rocks from milk crate size to ottoman size on up. I guess the average weight might be about 350 - 450 lbs for the rocks I would hope to be able to move and place. By the way how much weight could you expect to pick up with a thumb on a CK20HST TLB?Charlie
