Dish Network or DirecTV

Do you have a DVD player? and watch DVD's on your TV? Have you notice how much better the picture and sound is on a DVD?? How would like to have the same quality and sound picture ALL THE TIME? The picture quality on Dish or Direct is so much better then standard cable service. Plus adding the DVR makes it an hard to beat package. The DVR makes TV watching a better use of time to watch what you want when you want.
On paper it may look like its the same BUT it is not! Go for it!

Like so many other things...it will probably come down to 'personal preference'. There's very little difference in price between Dish and Direct TV. I have never heard of one being better than the other. Both get higher ratings than cable for service, quality, and value (Consumer Reports just did a report on cable vs satellite vs rabbit ears a month or two ago). I assume you will be able to get local channels via satellite in your area?
Will come down to which company is offering the best 'special' when you are ready to buy and/or which company has the channel selection that best fits your interests.
I have had direct TV for >4 yrs. My in-laws have Dish. Never a technical glitch. Just lose signal when big black storm clouds are over head....and that's mostly because my dish site-line is through some tree limbs at the back of property...causes a slightly weaker signal.

We are about 30 miles north of you and have Dish. Reception is good. On rare occasion when a heavy thunderstorm is directly overhead we may lose reception for a short time. But that has never lasted more than a minute or two. Started off with most of the movie channels, but dropped back to the basic service since we weren't watching any of the movies.
I live in the country and am stuck with dial-up. Looked into getting internet service thru Dish but it was far too expensive for how much I use it.

I have Dish TV. They do not carry our local stations as they do in many other markets,and as a result, The Weather Channel does not carry our local forcast. During the time it would be on ("on the 8's") all I get is satalite images from around the country. I do not know if you'd get your local forcast if they carried your local channels. May be something to look into.

What does RFDTV stand for? Sounds like a neat channel and I don't think it is offered on DirecTV, at least I don't have it. If I know what it is, at least I can ask for it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Rural something, something. I'm sure someone will know exactly. If you don't have it, you've surely never seen "The Big Joe Polka Show." That in itself is worth it.

Much to my wife's chagrin, DirecTV does offer RFDTV as a base channel.. BUT .. here's the catch ... If you currently are NOT using the new eliptical shaped dish, then RFDTV is a religious programming channel, irrespective of what the guide might actually say.

If you DO have the new eliptical shaped dishes, then you get RFDTV.

Man, is she p'd off bout that. I sure as sherlock aint buying another dish and going up there to swap it out!

Much as I'd like to see what those tractor shows are.

Check out RFDTV.COM for a run down on the station and a list of programs. Direct TV offers it in their basic package but, at least where I am, you have to have an elliptical dish that can read more than one satellite. I think it also involves a different type of reciever.
