Dish Network vs Direct TV

/ Dish Network vs Direct TV #181
If you decide to sign up for Dish, they just sent me a promo that gives me a $50 bill credit for every sucker^H^H^H^H^H^H friend I can get to sign up. The referral code is

DTG071958059 (I think that's a zero)

Thanks in advance. :D

I finally cancelled Dish Network. The conversation was amusing to say the least. They had raised my bill twice in 3 months and I'd had enough. The last increase was 10$ for equipment rental. I believe I was paying 16.99/month for obsolete standard definition 2 tuner DVR. They offered to give me the same deal as a new customer but I refused. After almost 20 years as a customer I had finally had enough. The funniest part was when I asked if they wanted their box back and they said, "no, it's obsolete". I said, "so you've been charging me 16.99 per month for obsolete equipment you want me to throw in the garbage and you wonder why I'm cancelling my service." They offered no reply.

Years ago on DirectTV (they had a lock on the NFL package and I was stuck unless I wanted the NY Giants or Jets) I had serious "rain-fade" issues so I bought and installed my own Channel Master dish and upgraded to a better receiver (my dime). Also bought the high-end splitter to accommodate the old receivers that I was paying monthly for because at the time DirectTV required a separate box at each TV (no way to split it). When I activated the new receiver I was told that I just locked into a new 2 year commitment that had a penalty if I wanted to downgrade my programming package. I argued and argued to no avail (nothing changed other than I installed my own stuff on my dime). So they are still on my NEVER list (along with GE appliances but that's a different subject). When we moved back home I went with DISH (couldn't go back to DirectTV). DISH's technology allowed for splitting the signal on the input side. The bill kept going up but I never bothered to look until recently. We too are paying $$/month for an old receiver PLUS I see that we are paying $$ for a maintenance program. That's my fault for not paying attention. I can buy my own receiver the same as we have that would pay for itself in about a year but I think the technology is changing now and what I have now might be "grandfathered" and the new stuff will be more expensive.
