Dish Network vs Direct TV

Here's my update.

We cut the cable/phone/internet package from TWC down to just internet service. Went with DirectTVNow for TV. Just completely dropped the phone and are using cell service only.

So far the Direct TV Now has a package that is OK as far a programs and networks we look at. The rest we can get online anyway. They did have a deal where if you paid for a few months up front they would give you an Apple TV unit for no additional charge. We use that on the main TV and something called a Firestick on the other ones. With those Firesticks you can view your subscription on any TV where you have internet. So we can take it to the farm. DW is trying it out this weekend and we already cut the cable service out there. Internet service has always been good there so she should have no problem.

We did lose the built in DVR with the cable box but so far that hasn't been a noticible loss. A lot of available auxiliaries on the new system we haven't got into yet. Might never. The remote control is much smaller and more streamlined than the cable remote. Still have on for the TV and then the Apple TV. The remote for the Apple TV is very small and you switch mostly by swiping your thumb across it. Takes some getting used to.

We cut a little over $200 off our bill between both places. Still get TV that we want and internet. We will see how it works out.

Sadly, that kind of service is becoming the norm for just about anything where you have to do business over the phone. But, especially cable TV.

TBS

I never sign up for auto pay for anyone or anything and never will. I know once they have get their hand in my pocket I'll play h e l l trying to get it out. I saw that one coming from a mile away.

Stupid Dish. I called to have them come up to get the TV dish up off the roof so it would stop getting buried in snow. Why they put it there in the first place is beyond me. The cross arm was right down on the roof and satellite signals can not propagate through snow. The guy finally shows up yesterday two days late with a new Internet modem. Clueless idiots!

Pre-pay is not the same as auto pay.

Auto pay or draft pay is not a problem if you pay attention to your account. Probably millions of people use it daily.

Interesting. I've been thinking of switching once Directvnow works for roku boxes. What do you get for local channels like NBC, CBS, FOX, and ABC?

That's the one thing I dont' like about Sling is I do not get all the locals.

We only get one local station. So if you want a lot of local news or just a broadcast network assortment you can just plug in an antenna and get broadcast TV. We don't need local stations that much.

Dish just went up another $5. Said it was to cover local channels.

Right now Dish has taken the local ABC affiliate off their feed because they don't want to pay the same rate for the programming that other cable and satellite feeds do. They used to steal it from an antenna, and there was a six week service interruption while they "negotiated" a fair payment system then, too...

We just got that letter in the mail today. Looks like we may be going to a firestick and internet TV.

Same thing here with DirecTv and NBC. It was off for 2 weeks. Everybody wants a bigger piece of the pie. :greedy:
