Thank you everyone for responding so quickly and with so many options!!!

Steph is taking notes and reseaching like crazy. Nothing is set in stone as we're just starting to look at options and what's out there. One thing that we've changed our mind on is staying at one of the park hotels. It does seem like it's worth the few bucks extra. We're still unsure if three or four days is what we want. If we go four, than that limits us on Sea World and that's it.

The Safari Adventure sounds like a nice, fancy zoo, and is on the bottom of our list. For me, I'd love it, but this trip is for the kids and we wonder how much they would enjoy it.

Thank you and please keep the suggestions coming.

Eddie

PS. We hate the idea that it's gonna be spring break and would take the kids out of school to go at another time, but Steph is the head tech for a Doctor, and her vacation off revolves around his days off. He's taking vacation in March, so Steph is off then. It's just the way it works for us.

Eddie,

The safari area has more acreage by itself than the entire Magic Kingdom. "nice fancy zoo" isn't how I'd describe it. You ride on a truck like and army transport truck with the canopy off. The terrain is varied and the truck crosses streams with a lot of splashing. It is my favorite thing in the entire Animal Kingdom. My daughter loved it. I think your kids would too. If I had to skip one park, however, it would be the Animal Kingdom. But, if you do go there, the safari is worth it. The last couple of times that we went, we got the 4 day park hopper, and spent only the first 3 hours of one morning at the Animal Kingdom. We did the safari, the whitewater ride, the big tree, and It's Tough to be a Bug. Then we left and spent more time in the other parks.

I think all 4 of the Disney parks are superior to any of the attractions off the Disney property. Sea World is kinda slow, and the two Universal parks are full of super coasters and scary stuff for teenagers. Kennedy is good if you're looking for a slow educational day (unless there's a launch). I don't know a whole lot about Busch Gardens.

I think your kids would go banannas over the Cirque du Soleil at Downtown Disney. The tickets ain't cheap, but it is truly worth the price. Those guys did stunts that defy belief.

It's true that the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian are on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, and thus are minutes away. You can change monorails to get to Epcot. It takes a bus ride to get to the other parks, or take your car. From the Wildrness Lodge, you can catch a quick boat ride to the Contemporary then get on the monorail, or you can take the shuttle bus from the Wilderness Lodge to the transportation center.

I dont have much relevant advice for you guys, because I got burnt out on the place as a kid... My parents have been taking my son(11) there for the past several years(its a must do for them, he's getting burnt too:rolleyes: )... However, he absoloutly loves the Wilderness Lodge, just about as much as the attractions, it sounds like the best one to me... As far as time, take as much as you can afford and see it all if possible.. You will get worn out and be ready to leave by the end, but it should be well worth it if none of you have been yet....Everyone else has posted great advise and I agree with most of it.. Have fun , do some research on what are must see's for you guys while you are there.. Epcot is probably the most interesting for the science buffs and adults, my sons favorite but again, he has been there don that at the rest of them..

Took our almost 4 year old and stayed at Universal studios with a one day trip to disney. I think we had more fun at universal. And I would second the speedpass for rides. have fun

Eddie, I have a different idea for you guys. Instead of going to Disney World and only seeing a little of each park, (you can only scratch the surface in 3 or 4 days) think about Disneyland & Disney's California Adventure. You can pretty much cover these parks in 3-4 days. I've been told that the Disney magic is more prevalent at the original park. There is easy access to the parks from both on & off property hotels. My wife & I always stay at Disney hotels for multiple night stays & stay off site for our 1 night stays.(seems it should be the other way around :) ) I disagree with everybody telling you to Fast-Pass everything as far as the Magic Kingdom is concerned. The lines are as much of the ride as the ride itself. If you Fast-Pass, it would be like having your lake done over night and getting none of the enjoyment of building it.:( Yes you would still enjoy it, but it just wouldn't be the same.

Just some of my thoughts, have fun which ever way that you go.;)

Universal Studio's in Orlando sound real interesting!!! We're looking at it online and can't belive we've never heard of it before. I've been to the one in California and enjoyed it allot, but that was in a different life. hahaha

This one seems like it has allot more to offer and might even be more fun that Disney.

Lets see. Two days of driving each way. Mon - Wed at Disney, then Thu -Fri at Universal. It almost sounds like more fun that we can handle!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the advice and tips so far. You guys have really given us some great advice and tips.

I am like Skypup and avoid the tourist areas like the plague too. People drive like idiots in those areas. The British forget to drive on the right, and some of the people from East Asia have never been behind the wheel of a car until they came to Disney. Be alert when driving in those areas!

I worked at Disney World, and my close friend still works there! He has over 20 years at the Rat House. The pixie dust is gone for me!

Although, I will give my 2 cents and opinion. :)

Universal Studios:

Great place for kids 10 and up. There wasn't much to do for my little ones who are under 7. They weren't tall enough for many of the rides. There is one small section of the park for the tikes, but the rest seemed to be geared for kids a little older.

Sea World:

Wonderful for all ages, and my kids loved the large playground. So much to do, and the pace is easy on the adults. You can see almost every attraction in one day. At the end of the day, I was tired but not exhausted.

Medieval Times:

Fun dinner show, with lots of action. I usually play miniature golf next door, then go and watch the show.

Wet and Wild:

I hate sunburn, so I spend no more than 3 to 4 hours there. Great water rides, and I think it is better than Disney's Blizzard Beach. My wife likes to go to the outlet mall down the road after playing in the water. There is a Bass Pro shop across from the outlet mall. So, I get to play too. :)

Epcot:

I think Epcot is more adult oriented. Slow rides, history, science, and some flight simulator style rides. World showcase is fun, but my kids were just not into all the walking to see it. I like Living Seas exhibit. When you exit, Coca Cola has a taste testing area of soft drinks from around the world. Watch out for the bitter tasting stuff from Italy. It tasted like carbonated water with powdered aspirin. I had an after taste for about 2 hours!

Animal Kingdom:

My kids loved it. Although, the park is not as big as Epcot and the Magic Kingdom. Rides were fun for the kids, and it kept their interest. Not too many places to cool off there either. Not a fun area in the hot humid summer. There is a Rainforest Cafe in the Animal Kingdom, and the kids would love it. Food is very good too. There is another Rainforest Cafe in the Disney Village aka Downtown Disney.

MGM Studios:

Home to the Tower of Terror. I rode it once, and never again. I am a big fan of Rod Serling and Twilight Zone, but that elevator is too much for me. You never know when you are going to fall, and the anticipation is overwhelming. Bring a change of underwear. I found that 4 hours was all I needed to see everything I wanted in this park. Last time I was there, they had Sponge Bob live on stage, and the kids were into it. Took about an hour to get through the line. I like going to MGM studios during Christmas when they have a huge light Display.

Magic Kingdom:

Fun place for all. It would take about three days to hit most of the rides. Lots of walking, but lots to do for everyone. Best time to hit Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain, Buzz Light year, etc... is either first thing in the morning or during the 3 O'clock parade. Speaking of that, I remember when I was working in the Magic Kingdom, I had a person ask me, "What time is the 3 O'clock parade." Anyway, most people crowd Main Street, so that leaves lots of the rides open. Fast Pass is great. You enter you ticket into the machine at the ride you want, and it gives you a scheduled time to return with about a 15-30 minute window. Buzz Light Year is usually 1 to 2 hours out from the time you get your Fast Pass ticket. Of course, this depends on park attendance. You end up hanging around one area, so we always get the Fast Passes right before we eat lunch. By the time we are done with lunch, it is time for the Fast Passes, when we finish those, we are usually into the 2:30PM timeframe, and everyone is heading to Main Street for the parade. This leaves other rides open with about a 15-minute wait time. Magic Kingdom fireworks are best viewed from the front of the castle right near the end of Main Street. Another hot location is from the Contemporary Hotel.

Contemporary Hotel:

Great location to stay, but I think the rooms are a little small unless you pay a little more. You can eat at Chef Mickey's in the hotel. It is great for the kids since all the characters come around during dinner! It is a buffet, food is good, and you are guaranteed a picture with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald Duck, etc... We like to eat dinner there around 7PM, and the cost is near $25 per person. We end up finishing dinner and then it is time for Fireworks over the Magic Kingdom. You can walk to the end of the building and go out onto the balcony overlooking the Magic Kingdom. You get an awesome view of the fireworks and less crowds!!!! The other hotels which are really close to the them parks are the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian. The Monorail runs through all these hotels.

There are other hotels located in the Downtown Disney area, and this area has busses that run from the parks to the hotels. You are still on Disney Property, but not on top of the parks. The Downtown Disney area has lots of shops to buy shirts, gifts, toys, etc... There are movie theaters there too. Cirque du Soleil is also there, and last check it was $75 per adult to see the show. Depends on where you sit. Some tickets are over $100.

Good luck!

Several years ago my wife and I took all our kids and grandchildren for a week, 14 people. We went thru a travel agency and they saved us lots of $$$. We found a flight from our area to Orlando, round trip for $110 each, and rented a 6 bedroom house with a pool in Kissimmee(spell?) for $1000 per week. If you are going to drive, look at renting a house for the week.

Eddie, we went a few years ago. I am not a 'theme park' sort of guy and I went under duress. Assumed I'd hate every minute of it. Dreaded the day it came time to go down there......then loved every minute of it and didn't want to leave.

Let me just hit the highlights. You may not have a choice of when to go but there is about a 4 week period that is better than any other and that is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We looked at the graph that shows park visits for each month of the year and this period has BY FAR the lowest number. Let me state this clearly and without exaggeration: We did not have to wait for any rides. The longest wait we had was 15 minutes for Space Mountain and that's only because we skipped the Fast Pass. For the other popular rides we got Fast Passes and it worked perfectly. I'm not saying there were no crowds, but the crowds were small and Fast Passes solved any potential wait problems. We never waited on ferries, trams or monorail. Kids rode in the front car of the monorail several times. I realize you may not be able to choose your visit time, but if you can, there is no better way to experience Disney World.

As has been stated, suck it up and stay in the park. We stayed in the Wilderness lodge and loved it. Rooms are nothing special but the lodge and surroundings are great. Lodge restaurants are great. We parked the car the day we arrived and didn't see it again for 5 days. That in itself defines 'vacation' for me. The lodge has a heated pool and their own boat/fireworks show at night. You get to the Magic Kingdom by neat little ferry boats that pick you up at the Wilderness Lodge.

Food. Its an expensive pain in the rear. Disney's weakest link. Eating in the lodge was pleasant and the quality was good but it was expensive. Still, it was easy and worth not having to go outside the park or even eating within the a parks. We brought packaged stuff for breakfast and just ate in the room, stuff like granola bars, donuts, etc. We also carried fanny packs with a snack bar for inside the park.

When they do the fire works at Magic Kingdom, take the elevators in the Contemporary up to the top floor. You have to walk through the restaurant but you can go outside on a balcony for the best show in the house.

The big fireworks show at Epcot attracts a huge crowd no matter what time of year you go. Its a great show but at busy times it can take hours to get out of Epcot after the show.

We did not go to studios park. We are not into thrill rides so we spent our time at the other parks. Next time we go we'll check it out though.

If I remember, it set us back about $2200. This included 5 days and four nights at the Wilderness Lodge as well as most of our food. Outrageous, but worth it. It was carefree and Disney quality is superb. That is the part that got me, no worries and all expectations of quality were met without worries.
