Disposing of road kill

I'm on a cul-de-sac that will eventually hold 7 homes but currently I am the only homeowner. That means that the cul-de-sac is not "state maintained" yet. I'm guessing that's the argument. However, the carcass was actually on an easement that was formed at the corner of the cul-de-sac and the road that is state maintained. I'm guessing that more persistance would have paid off, but we didn't know how long it would take, so we took the quick way out. I am asking for future reference.

Thanks for all of the replies.

My BIL hit a deer on HY 17, which is a very busy HY. He pulled over and stopped not knowing what he should do. He had barely made it over to the deer, which was injured but still alive, when a guy in a pickup stopped and got out. The guy asked my BIL if he was planning on taking the deer. Now my BIL wasn’t entirely sure what the guy was getting at,(where do you take injured deer for help?) but he told him no he had to get to work. The guy then said “so you don’t mind if I take it then” to which my BIL said “no go ahead”. The guy walked back to his PU and pulled out a gun, went over and shot the deer, then put the deer in the truck and left.

I know of several things to do:

1. DINNER
2. Throw it in a ditch
3. Throw it in your neighbors yard
4. Put it in the back of your truck, take it to work, and put it in the back of someone elses truck
5. Put it in your bosses yard

Unless you have friends that take pranks well, I'd just stick to #2.

That #2 choice is referred to as a "flying burial" by the county road crew. They are supposed to pick them up, but if its quick and easy, they toss them into the ditch (or drag them there if the pitchfork isn't strong enough and they think no-one is watching /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )
