Do the enviroment a favor and dispose of waste oil, tires, antifreeze and batteries properly.

Agreed

When I had a wood stove, I'd burn both the oil filter and used oil in it. Just threw the filter in. Put the oil into the firebox in a separate container. Removed the container when the oil was burned out. An acquaintance who has an auto repair place uses used oil to heat his garage. He just drops it into the firebox via a simple valve controlling flow from an elevated oil container. There's another garage near Afton mountain that takes used oil and uses it to heat their garages.

Most garages that change antifreeze do their own recycling or send to someone who does. Unfortunately, there is no garage in the area that'll take it from individuals. We have to take it to the dump. Really a waste.

Batteries always go back for the core charge.

Tires, find a shop that'll take them. They usually keep them when they are changed but I've taken some in to them and pay them what they get charged for removal.

Used Hyd oil is filtered, mixed w diesel and fed to the tractor. No point in giving away fuel.

Anyone have a spare, old battery? I just bought one for my generator as it didn't come with one. I was charged for a core but have none to turn in.

Like others, oil goes back to the auto parts store. My truck loses enough coolant that I don't have to change it, only add more from time-to-time.

Very interesting. What percentage? Just about to change the rear fluids and that is about 10 gallons. What are you using for a filter? All the good little details.

oil is poured into 5 gallon buckets and once a year or so take trip to gas station for their recycle tank. (some oil is used as accellerant for damp or frosty firewood in the shop woodstove, too)

batteries - remove old battery in parking lot at store, carry dead battery in, exchange for new battery. no core charge involved.

antifreeze - have never swapped it out myself. either let the garage do it during major maintenance or am just topping off the radiator.

oil filters are left to drain over oil bucket until empty, then also carted to the gas station.

tires are either used for trailers or spares, or if they're totally dead, cut the beads out, cut in half through the centerline of the tread, and buried as part of erosion control. (spike through sidewall on the ground to anchor in place, fill with dirt, tamp, add another half tire on top set back a couple inches for slope, spike, fill, tamp, etc... Repeat until you run out of tires or hit the height you want. cover with topsoil and plant buffalo or prairie grass to finish the job. to get an idea of what this looks like before covering with soil, google "earthship" - it's an alternative house building site out in NM.

The hyd system has its own filter so my after draining filter step is mainly to get out the debris that gets in during draining. I rigged up a slow siphon arrangement through a coffee filter. I use it at 10-15% [about 2G at 50% added to top off the tank], but I think even more would work fine in warm weather. If your oil is cloudy it indicates water. That could be a problem.

Sounds like a good way to recycle as long as the engine is happy with the diet. What's your mix ratio?
