Hi All,
I have an AKON brand valve on my Yanmar YM2310. It does not have the float option. I know that some other valves can have the float function added by just adding a little can packed with goodies onto the valve. I have been unable to find any information for my particular AKON valve. These valves are not sold in North America as near as I can tell. In fact, I cannot find any vendors of AKON valves anywhere in the Americas.
I'm a retired machinist and still own my machine shop. Furthermore, I have made spools and valve bodies. So I could make any parts needed. But I don't know what would be needed. If it's too much work I will just buy a new valve if I decide I want float that badly. I have better things to do with my time.
Since I don't even know where to start I would appreciate some advice from somebody who knows how these types of valves work and what would likely be involved in adding the float function. Just because I have machined valve bodies, turned spools, and even honed the valve bodies using a Sunnen hone, it doesn't mean I know what's going on inside the valve body. So if anybody would like to help me with some advice and guidance I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Eric

I highly doubt that you could modify the existing spool to add the float feature since this requires a longer spool with the fourth position. Float can be added externally with two solenoid valves. Not sure how cost would compare to a new valve though.
