Hello all, I have an occaision to trailer my DK 35, Filled R4's, 1450 FEL, and Rhino 75 backhoe and I am trying to determine weight so that I can rent the appropriate trailer (and also determine if my Chevy 1/2 ton will pull it safely). At this point I know the tractor is a hair under 3400 pounds, the backhoe is 950 pounds. I cannot find a weight for the FEL and I was hoping one of you guys would know this plus the weight of the filled tires. Thanks in advance.

Your loader weight is 700lbs.
Your weight on you tires will vary depending on what they are loaded with and if the dealer put the recommended amount of fluid which is 48 gallons in each tire.
The solution that I use is 10.7 pounds per gallon.
48x2=96
96 gallons x10.7 lbs =1027.2lbs

What year is your chevy? It will be all the pickup can do and I use a 1/2 ton chevy also. Remember that the trailer, if the proper 10k unit, will weigh 2500#s. Chains, binders, fuel in the tractor, etc.

Doesn't sound like you should be trailering that big a machine with a 1500 series truck.
Machine (3400lbs)
+backhoe (950lbs)
+FEL (700lbs)
+tires(1050lbs)
+10k trailer incl chains & binders (2500 to 3000lbs)
will total 8600 to 9100 lbs.
Unless you have the really big engine (6.0 liter) and the heavy duty factory tow package, you are way over.

See specs here: Specifications: Silverado: Trucks: Chevrolet

I have a Dodge Ram 2500 which only is rated to PULL 8100 lbs. A lot of folks Look at gross combo (not vehicle) weight and don't realize it includes the weight of the truck itself, occupants of the truck, cargo, trailer & load. You have to look at standalone towing specs. A Chevy 1500 series will range from under 5K to a bit over 10k but there are a lot of variables as you will see in the link provided above.

I own a DitchWitch R40 with a backhoe that tips the scales at 6700lbs. On a 3000lb equipment trailer, that's darn near 10k. As I said, I'm rated to pull only 8100. My heavy equipment friends have warned me that if I exceed TRAILER load weight OR exceed TOW VEHICLE load weight and get in an accident, it will be deemed MY FAULT even if the other person was at fault. Something to think about. Nuf said. Be safe out there.

Thanks for the responses. As it turns out, I will be over the combined weight rating so trailering will be out of the question with my truck.. Actually though if I had had the 4.10 rear and used a 7000# trailer I probably would have been OK, but with my rear, the combined weight rating ain't nearly enough - I would be about 2000 pound over.

Good conclusion. The tow rating for my older GM half ton is 6500 but I have 7000 lbs of trailer and it feels good especially after making some upgrades such as the stiff LT tires, overloads, etc. None of which raise my ratings but they help me tow at the max more comfortably. The difference between 500 lbs over and 2000 lbs over is pretty huge though and I would (and have) turned down hauling loads that put me into that area. What it means to me is that I can haul regular cars and small trucks but nothing full sized. Plenty of trailer, not enough truck.
