Just another thing to check...there is a "small" ground lead that bolts to the frame about 6" behind the main frame ground from the battery (right side below the engine). This smaller ground connector is for the Display and Cruise units. The Cruise unit is part of the safety interlock circuit for start. Just check this ground connection and make sure it's clean and tight. Long shot...maybe...but check it and take it off the list of possibilities. We spent 2 hours chasing an "intermittent" start issue on a DKSE, and found the control ground was bad.

I'm watching this thread because I have the same problem as the OP on my 2011 DK35SE with 1,380 hours. The lights, including the range selector, work fine but occasionally it will not turn over. It is very intermittent and I have been able to work around it most times by fiddling with the range selector, either by just wiggling it around or shifting to the alternate N position from the one which is not working (eg. to between H & M if between M & L is not working). In my case it seems to suggest the range selector potentiometer has intermittent problems or is not calibrated correctly. However, MichiganIron's post gives another possibility that it could be the "small ground".

In the couple of times over the last year when changing N position did not work I started it by jumping the starter solenoid as suggested. I carry a jumper wire in the tool box "just in case". I have done so for a few years from when I was having trouble with the starter relay (which I eventually replaced).

I will check the "small ground" as noted by Michiganiron.

The original range selector pot that Motor 7 sent me some time back when he originally had a problem was verified by me to be defective.

Checking that ground would be a great idea.

Thanks for that info, I have been sidetracked with other projects and will take a look at this this morning. I did not know about this second ground...interesting for sure. And if that's not the issue then I will either do a starter button or the "Koua Ground"...sounds like a rich strong coffee eh?:laughing:

Well sports fans, I just added in a push start button and now I can use my tractor again. I will do my best to not forget to have it in neutral and PTO turned off when starting. All the help was greatly appreciated!

Good job and the easiest way to fix the problem. Having it in gear won't matter as you have a hydro tractor. I had a push button installed on my last tractor due to the same intermittent starting using the key switch.
