I also have the DK45 - that’s my review on the 45 on this board. I now have 107 hrs on the tractor and still think it is a great tractor. I have used it with a snow blower, brush hog, I clean out the horse pens, cut and baled 20 acres of alfalfa, run a big chipper, plowed and harrowed 5 acres, etc - it does it all. I have the standard FEL (the 249) and it has worked well for me for cleaning horse stalls, some digging and loading dirt into my truck. The only problem so far was the seat; it started to come apart almost immediately. The dealer gave me an option of having it repaired at their cost at my choice of shop or replacement. I opted for replacement and the new seat has had no problems. I have owned older Ford, Massey and International tractors feel the quality of the Kioti is as least as good as any of those.

What kind of Baler do you use??? Square or Round??? Is a DK 45 strong enough to pull a Round Baler???

I use an old NewHolland square baler. I have 20 acres in alfalfa for the horses. I average 50-55lb bales (easier for the wife to manage when feeding). I would think that the DK45 a little small for large bales.

Hey there WSchubert-
So you do actually bale your hay with the DK 45. Your kind of baling is exactly the kind of baling we do (except we don't have any nice alfalfa - just fescue, timothy, clover and whatever else springs up, you know). Do you have any problems using the DK 45 for this. I've used a Ford 5000, but that is the smallest that I have baled with. The guy who actually does most of our baling (about 6,000 bales a year for us and 6,000 for him - total of 12,000 in the summer) usually uses an older IH 585 (I think) but when it had to be overhauled a few summers ago he hooked up his IH 300 (or was it a 350 - anyway, I think it was the slightly newer equivalent of an IH M tractor) with a hand-clutch and went to baling. I think the M-300/350 only had about 35-40 hp, so I thought the DK 45 could do it but I haven't tried it yet.

I used to bale with an IH 574, a bit more hp, but it has a gas engine and two wheel drive. The DK45 seems to do a much better job. The combination of higher torque at lower rpm and the 4wd makes a big difference, esp on the one steeper hill I have in the field.

I have alfalfa now, but need to change it over to grass. The alfalfa is too hot for the horses. I plowed 1/3 of the field under this fall and will plant that in some type of grass this spring. I'll do the rest when I come up with a good grass combination.
