Hi,
I've got a DK45S with about 10 hours on it. Tried to re-grade the gravel driveway last night and it seems that even with both levers pushed all the forward (position and draft), the boxblade with raise up when it hits some hard rocks, etc.
Is there a way the "lock" the blade so that it will not lift up at all? Some of the driveway is hardpacked gravel and I am having a hard time getting the blade to "cut in".
Thanks for the help!

I have more hours with a boxblade than I'd like to admit. I have about 1/4 mile of my driveway that is still gravel. I think that if you shorten your top link some, you will get plenty of bite. I don't think it has anything to do with your tractor. You may need to experiment some. If you shorten the top link too much, you may get more bite than you want.

I actually sprang for the hydraulic top link and tilt to better control my box scraper. That way, I can get just the right top link length from inside the tractor. Good luck! I think you'll get it by adjusting that top link.

How heavy of a box blade you have will also effect it. The more weight to the blade, the better it stays on the ground.

In reply to the original question, most tractors do not have down pressure on the 3-point. Being mainly a rear wheel drive machine, if the boxblade didn't dig in it would leave you high and dry so to speak lifting the rear tires up or taking most of the weight off them.

The front axle in a 4wd is not designed to pull the whole weight of the machine plus boxblade so it would break if you tryed to use 4wd to keep going with the rear tires up.

Thanks for all the help!
I will adjust the top link and maybe add some cinder blocks to the blade.
Great forum - did a lot of reading here before I bought my "toy" and I have not been disappointed.

As has been said, weight. I have a few hundred pounds of steel on my box and it works pretty well.

When you say it keeps raising up. Do you mean the hydraulics of the tractor are raising the box blade or the box blade is just bouncing up.
If it is the tractor hydraulics is doing this...
Okay standing at the back of your tractor looking at the top link there is a label on the left of the tractor, it will explain what to do.
When using a box blade you should have the top link in the lower pin hole on the back of the tractor(pin hole C)
See if this does the trick

Once again, Rick has pointed out something that is often missed by new owners. The top link on most Kioties has 3 holes in which it can be placed (opposite end from the implement side). For most implements the second, or middle hole, is fine. For a boxblade, the bottom hole is desirable.
Play around with adjusting the top link to get the bite you want. As Slowzuki pointed out, the hitch arms will always come up when faced with resisitance as there is no down pressure. Be glad they do, because otherwise, besides what he pointed out about the rear tires, you could get some broken arms as well.
I think you'll find a little more aggressive angle, and then some added weight will solve the problem.
