My fuel pump is acting up. Theres a metal rod inside that should move about an inch and a bit when you turn the key (solenoid actuates the rod - that's the click you hear when you first turn the key)

The rod has been sticking in a closed position. I've freed it up a bit, but it only moves a an eighth of an inch or so. It's pretty stuck.

Any suggestions. I hear I might have to get the pump rebuilt.

The tractor is still under powertrain warranty, but my dealer tells me the fuel pump isn't covered. Any comments on that?

Know where I can get a rebuilt pump?

Thanks
Eric

Many post state that Kioti even helped out after warranty expired so why would they not cover it during the warranty period? sound fishy to me.

I checked out their warranty description online and sure enough, the powertrain doesn't include fuel systems. In fact, the pt warranty is pretty limited in what it covers. Pretty safe bet on Kioti's part.

I guess I'm going for a rebuild, but from what I hear... a rebuild is not much less expensive than a new part. I hope I get more then 650 hours out it this time.

Further update - talked to the dealer and he says that the new
'clean' diesel is causing problems with fuel systems. Apparently the clean diesel doesn't have the lubricant characteristics of the old dirty stuff. It's now required to add diesel conditioner. So, if you have an older Kioti (mine is 2006) this is something to find out. Confirm with your dealer. Start using the conditioner.

My fuel pump + solenoid is still out of commission. I'm not getting too much from google on the issue. (fuel plunger stuck). Once I figure all this out, I'll write it up.

You may want to get in touch directly with Kioti, as I have read where others got the parts covered by Kioti for fuel pumps. Plus Kioti and their dealer network should be informing their clients with older or newer models of the need to add additives to protect their engines.

Sorry I've taken so long to get back on this thread.

First - thanks MX5guy for the links provided. There might be some hope.

Background... My Kioti DK45S is a great machine. However, I did have a major problem with the fuel injection pump. There's what looks like a chrome rod in the pump that gets stuck in an open or closed position. Apparently the rod has teeth on the opposite side and as the rod moves back and forth, it turns round gears that in turn actuate valves that pump fuel. The round gears have a tendency to break. If the rod is stuck open, then the engine revs wide open. If the rod is stuck closed, the engine won't start.

It's a serious defect in the older DK45's but I'm guessing that it has been corrected in later models because the part number has been updated. (And I suspect the new part has corrected the flaw.) I don't know how prevalent the problem is with this model tractor. I have heard anecdotal evidence that it's widespread. For example, my local parts manager said that the pump was on back order and the backlog was substantial. On the other hand, I've talked to other dealers who say that they've never seen the problem.

I had my pump rebuilt. The shop that rebuilt it basically combined mine and another broken pump to turn out a repaired pump. That was not a good plan as now I have the problem again. The first time, my DK45 wouldn't start. This last time I set it up with my local wood cutter and he was using it with a 3ph wood splitter. When the fuel injection pump let go, the engine went wide open. I was off in my van running an errand and he was unfamiliar with the tractor. He did figure out what to do... get in the tractor; put it in high range and stall it out using the brake. It wouldn't shut off with the key. Fortunately he was savy enough to handle it.

I think the problem might be a combination of a poorly manufactured (or designed) part (components, whatever) and poorer quality fuel. The place where I buy my fuel probably doesn't turn over a lot of diesel and there might be a quality problem there. I do use diesel additive though, but it didn't prevent the problem.

My opionion.
Kioti had design flaw that was causing fuel pump failures in several models for a couple of years.
It is a known problem (I've read quite a few posts on this site alone that had the same problem) and it should be up to them to fix it.
