One of the great things in this short time of owning the DK50SE is the Locking differential located using the heel of your left foot. I drove across the lake to my neighbors house to show off my tractor. Deep snow, I got stuck a few times on the approaches to the lake, until I locked the differential and walked it right out, great feature! I know I'm repeating myself but the cab and heat are a must in this part of the country. I regret not getting it sooner. It's 3 degrees with about a 20 mph wind. What a great value for the money. So many standard features which were options on other rigs.

That explains why the old style "replacement" nozzles cost $10! I actually like the ones with the lever on top, it's perfect for filling chainsaws. I don't think you can get those anymore, at least I haven't seen any around.

Now I'm off to scrape out a paddock and move a small mountain of "90-10" out to the muck heap (90% snow, 10% horse poo). Should take hours, as I ride around in the heated cab of my new DK50SE HST while listening to the radio! :dance1:

Life is good! congrats!

Does your diffy lock move easily? Mine seems to need a bit of pressure and it takes few tries to get it to lock. The radio cuts out when I hit a bump or something, and only puts out sound again if I mute/unmute or press the radio station preset button again. The weirdest thing about it is that I have an issue with a stereo on a tractor. Never thought I'd have that particular problem.

Mine seems to be the same as yours.
It seems to lock easier in reverse.
I took a quick look when I was putting mine away after clearing snow tonight, and did not see any adjustment in plain sight.
It almost seems like the rod needs a little more throw.
Didn't have time to really investigate it.

I don't have a service manual, it would be nice to know if there is a adjustment.

On the Dif lock. you put mild pressure on the lock and move with the hydro pedal to let the diff. lock pedal settle down and lock in. It often will not go down until the axles move. When it clunks in hold it in until you no longer need it/or start to turn the front steering. When you let up on the pedal, it may stay down for just a bit, but as soon as you turn a little it will click back up often with an audible twang.

Maybe i was putting to much pressure, I actually nosed it down into the ditch in the snow and put it in 2wd and watched the rear tires in the mirrors pushed the pedal and slowly turned the tires, you could here it click click like it was not getting quite enough throw on the rod.

We're supposed the get 10 to 12 inches of heavy stuff tonight so I'm sure I will have a chance to play with it more tomorrow night if I can make it over the pass to get home from work.
I'll try it with lighter pressure and see of it will settle in that way.

Thanks.

I just let the weight of my foot/leg rest on the diff lock lever and easy onto the pedal. I do not gun the engine and never hear a clunk, it will sorta just slip into the lock position with when the wheels start to turn. Maybe I don't hear anything cause the heater is blowing and tunes are a playin!

It seems with my tractor it takes a little effort to get it to lock in. The only thing I can compare it to is a JD 750, and with that one if the rear tires started spinning I just had to rest my foot on the diffy lock lever and it would drop right in, easy as could be and out of the hole I'd climb. Tires moving or not, getting the diffy lock to drop in is nowhere near as easily done. Maybe it's just tight because it's new. And I definitely have a short of some kind in the radio.

Keep using it, and see if it gets any better, If not, then it is time to ask the dealer about it. Obviously it needs to have the radio looked at anyway.

My Diffy lock works well and easily, as I outlined. Sometimes I just use the split brakes though for extra traction, Just put a little pressure on the spinning wheel and the other then goes.

Congrats, that's a nice looking tractor! I know I'll never buy another one that doesn't have a cab. Remember you can call it new as long as the plastic is still on the seat!
