Every year that question comes up and it reminds me of an April 1973 blizzard.A lot of road damage this Winter and I'd like to get started on repairs. Here in the northeast anyway, it seems like whenever I take the Winter gear off the tractor, we get a spring blizzard. I already tempted fate by taking off the chains & spreader, do I dare take the plow off too?![]()
It was a wet & heavy 10 to 20 inch snow with 40+ mph winds and shut everything down. One guy in town had a front wheel drive Oldsmobile Toronado, everyone else had rear wheel drive cars. Even the very few pickups around were 2 wheel drive.

The early April 1973 blizzard left more than a dozen Iowans dead and killed countless livestock. More than 18 inches of snow fell in some parts of Iowa, with winds reaching 65 mph.
