Do I have a pond monster ?

Have you noticed any strange beams of light from above, late at night?

I'm thinking it may be a raccoon or possibly a vulture. I've had the same issue and don't have muskrats.

Vultures come visit my pond to take a bath and then fly over to a fence post and spread their wings to dry in the sun.

River otters? They have been brought back in this area and I hear they will pick a pond free of fish.

I have seen lots of vultures but I don;t think they could pick a catfish skelton clean with out breaking any bones.

Since I don't see any signs of a den , I am pretty convinced that it is a mink.
They could live in the woods near the pond and hunt both my pond , a nerby stream and a large river. (anybody want to buy a mink coat !) just kidding
Also found out they love to eat rabbits and the woods by the pond are full of rabbits.
At this point I don't see them doing any harm to my pond or me .

Or just click the
quote.gif
button at the bottom-right of any post.

I did hit the quote button, but then tried to make modifications because I didn't want to quote the entire post. Then it came through looking like I had typed it myself. I also tried highlighting just what I wanted to quote and that didn't work for me either. I'll keep trying and thanks to all for the input.

I've got a crane that hangs out at our pond and he is too fast for me to ever get a shot at him...It is illegal to shoot them..but I have a law that it is illegal to steal my fish and that is what he is doing so if I ever get a clean shot at the sucker I am going to enforce my Law..

This strikes me funny and coincidental. I too have a pond in front of my house, and a koi pond behind my house. I have been trying to do battle with a persistant crane myself. In fact, I am sitting here waiting on his return right this minute. He has already stolen 5 of my fish, one while I and a friend were out back pitching horse shoes. It dove in, snagged a fish and flew out right over my head. I tried to ring his neck with a horse shoe but missed by a fraction. This time, close didn't count in horse shoes. I've been trying to pepper him with rat-shot from a 22 pistol but he gets up and out before I can get close enough. I've shot anyway several times, now it is used to the sound and that is not keeping it away. Next I'm thinking 410ga. I like your reasoning, now I'm going to copy you and enforce my law.

LOL - I just saw your reply to my post.... We are twins...I go through the same as you posted with my crane...I will get him one day or he will get me...It reminds me of that movie with the 2 brothers that inherited their uncles mansion and a mouse destroyed the mansion and them....

In order for it to look right when you post it, you need to make sure the beginning HTML code (such as
) & ending HTML code (always
) are there, & any editing you do to the quoted post occurs between those codes.

btw, how did you include the quote button graphic in your previous post?

wrflt; you highlight the text you want, right click, copy, click the quote button top of post window, place cursor between quote]place cursor here[/quote brackets, and paste the text in between them.
i left two brackets off so as to show where to past the text, otherwise it would show up as a quote.
place cursor here
