Do I need a slip clutch?

   / Do I need a slip clutch? #41
I bought my Woods HC54 with the slip clutch because I don't want to have to deal with shear bolts. The clutch is easy to adjust, also easy to "break" or slip/loosen if it has sat for a while. So far, it has held where and when it's supposed to, and slipped when it has needed to. I'm glad I went with this option.

A little late getting on this thread but the subject is still alive and well with me. I have a new New Holland TT45A and a 5 foot Woods mower. I don't have a slip clutch on the mower. I used it for 10 years on my old 600 Ford and never broke a pin. I will add that I mowed stuff off that I probably shouldn't have. I am thinking with the more horses I have now, it might be a good idea to go with a slip clutch. Putting the one that you can get right on the PTO looks like the easy way to go but I am not sure I like the idea of that thing spinning so close to my body. Sure would be easy to put on though.

get one that mounts at the mower gearbox..
