/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifI have almost six acres, of which I'll be mowing about 2.5 acres on a weekly basis around my home. The remaining balance of 3.5 acres I intend to bush hog at least twice a year (six times at the most). The terrain has slight hills.

I was thinking of getting a smaller garden tractor for the 2.5 acres of weekly mowing and hiring a local farmer to bush hog the other 3.5 acres a few times a year.

However, I recognize the advantages of owning a compact utility tractor with FEL, 62MMM and 3 point hitch with LX4 --- but just can't get over the cost!!

Any comments from members that have made similar decisions would be appreciated.

Well........get over it!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You'll be glad you did. You'll find all kinds of things to use the tractor for.

You don't really explain what you're doing with all the acreage, but... I'll throw in my 2 cents, anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I tried maintaining my just under 5 acres with a "garden" tractor. Since my horses were eating down about 3+, I didn't have to mow them very often. In 2.5 years, I had the mowing bed break once, get welded, and then break in 3 different places a year later. I bought my 2210 at that point, put the broken mower bed in the front loader, and dumped it in the trash. What a liberating feeling that was!!! Garden tractors just aren't built for a lot of acreage unless they don't have to be bounced against trees, fence posts, go over rough ground, ..........

You pay it now or you pay it later. Good luck! The 2210 is an awesome machine.

Fill in your profile and elaborate on your property and uses and I'm sure you'll get more responses. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yes, you really need a 2210 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. This is a well built, solid machine. I found out very quickly that I use it for so much more than I ever thought I would. You will not be disappointed with this tractor. It works alot bigger than it is.

Mowing 2.5 acres with a 62" MMM will take you roughly two hours a week. I am mowing approximately 1.5 acres with a 72"MMM and it takes just over an hour. Now I do have lots of trees to go around but at best it will still take an hour and a half for you. As others have said once you have that tractor you will wonder why you didn't do it a long time ago. In fact if you are going to do the brush hoggin yourself the 2210 will do it but will take some time to do it. You may even want to compare one of the John Deeres in the next class up. You might find that there isn't much more money to go there from the 2210. And even look at some of the other brands out there. You man find some major differences in prices. Watch the weight of any of the other ones out there for your finish mowing.

I agree with the rest. You won't regret it. I looked at the 2210's, and also thought it was a lot of money. I ended up finding a low hour used 4110 with implements for less money. So far I am thrilled. I have less acreage than you, but the possibilities are endless. (Espescially if you have family/friends who ask for help /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) Jason

It you don't have many trees or shrubs to go around, just the LX4 would do the mowing for you. Otherwise, a MMM is better, and the 2210 is good for that with its position indicator.

Otherwise, a 4010 with an LX4 is fine. You'll save at least $300 on the price of a 2210.

You'll never regret getting it with an FEL either. You'll find all sorts of uses for an FEL.

For further clarification, I intend on maintaining the 2.5 acre yard around the house weekly. I'm not sure, however, what to do about the remaining 3.5 acres. At present, it's old farm land devoid of any trees. I have thought about planting xmas trees or some other crop to qualify for an agricultural use tax break.

That's why I'm having a tough decision with the 2210. I'm not sure what my future needs will be.

/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gifI sincerely appreciate everyone's comments.

You will not save $300 on a 4010 over a 2210; only if you cannot negotiate a good deal or your dealer needs to unload one over the other.

As for mowing a lawn, a rear mower, though with some advantages, is of a lesser quality cut than a MMM, and is most certainly less maneuverable (you should be trying out these for yourself to see).

As for purchasing a CUT, if you stick to a known brand, you probably will find the resale value it holds will be very close to what you paid for it (especially if you don't overpay!) /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
