Do I want to buy too much tractor?

Your property is about the same size as mine, and your description of what you want to do sounds just like my expected list of chores when tractor shopping a year ago. At the time the 3010 looked to be somewhat wanting in HP for my needs and ended up with a 4610. What seemed at first like overkill turned out to be a wise choice because the last year has seen many unanticipated heavier chores where the added size and HP made all the difference, especially with the bigger FEL. 4610 has measured up in every respect and totally trouble-free.

If I were doing it now, the 5030 would be yet one step bigger, but I would be giving it serious consideration along with the 4330 and 4630.

Also, listen to what 5030 says about the HST. I initially was thinking GST but went hydro. Thank goodness... it has been outstanding.

Another thing to check, if you will be doing much loader work is the gpm of the hydraulic pump. Probably the 5030 will have more lift capacity at a higher speed. This will speed along the work much easier & faster.
I recommend the HST transmission also.
I have a L4610, along with 2 larger, older, gear tractors. I would not want anything smaller than my L4610.

I went and did it....the 5030 HST will be delivered Saturday /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I know it’s probably too much tractor, but you only live once so what the heck. Plus, the CFO didn’t care if I spent the extra money.

I have to say I wasn’t too sure about the HST, but after trying it I’m convinced it is the way to go for loader work. I can see where it will save a lot of time.

Well I got to use the tractor this weekend making my first lawn. This tractor works great! I was worried it was too much tractor, but now I think it is the perfect size. I moved some 150 yards of loam this weekend with little effert. This thing really has the power to push and pick up dirt. I'm very pleased with it's performance. After using it for a few hours going backward and forward almost continuously, I'm very happy I bought the HST and not some other type of transmission. I would definetly recommend buying the HST. I don't think you can beat it.

I think the old saying bigger is better is so true.

The more tractor you buy, the less time it takes to get the work done. That can be a bummer in the spring, but by the time the fall rolls around, it's a godsend.
