All rodents will attempt to chew through anything to gain entrance and in my case it was the cabin side entrance into my 31' trimaran. Heard the rat off and on for several evenings at night in the galley bulkhead just behind the solar panels 12"x10" control board. Had enough of that so I loosened to the point of fall off the four keeper nuts on the board and had a small oil can squirt bottle of 80% alcohol at the ready and went to bed. Yes sir and back again around 3:00 am there was the chewing-off came the control board and on went the alcohol-about 8 to 10 shots and that big rat never came back onboard again. I had to replace a length of 12/2 burial Romex which was lead through a 3/4" bore in the bulkhead that the rat had chewed through the insulation, the copper ground wire and one of the 12ga wires that ran the shore power electrics in the boat-which I had unplugged days earlier in order to repel the pest without burning up the sailboat.
