Do ultrasonic mice repellers work?

Way back, when my son was a kid, my mother had a plug-in pest repeller. I don't know how effective it was against mice, but, my son hated it. I'm guessing it emitted a sound adults can't hear.

Find anything round with two ends.

mouse trap roller bucket

Bruce

I used "Rotel" cans because I wanted something with ends a little more solid than a flimsy aluminum beer can. Punched holes in the ends with an old fashioned can opener and shook out the Rotel (made queso!).

I tried making one of those bucket traps with a roller on the top. I cought a few mice with it, but never more then two in one night, and some nights, none. Same with traps. I would catch several in a night, or not catch any. I never made a dent in the mouse population with traps. Poison would probably work the best, but I have too many chickens that would eat the poisoned mice to do that.

Lots of people on here suggested getting a cat. I was hestitant since I'm not a cat person and didn't want to deal with another animal if I can avoid it. My wife decided we where getting cats and found plenty of free kittens on FB. Of the dozen that we brought home, a couple died, a few ran off and we're at 7 right now with one that seems to be struggling to get past some never ending stomach issues. Meds help, then she gets sick again with something else. Free cats can be expensive.

Cats have been amazing at reducing the mouse population. The turds used to be everywhere you looked. Now you have to search for them. They are still around, but I haven't actually seen a live mouse in over a month. I do see the cats playing with dead mice, and fighting over their carcasses almost every day. So cats are the solution that actually works!!!!

Poison would probably work the best,

I have no had great success with poison. Some, but not enough. They seem to become immune to it or just figure out that it's not a good thing to eat. Dunno which, but I do know it seems to work for a few months, then... not so much.

Another downside to poison is that they die in the house, and the mites on them go looking for lunch. "Lunch" looks like mammal blood, and there do happen to be other mammals living in the house. Not good.

I agree about the cats - they work. Alas, we have a son with bad asthma, so, no cats.

I put my Ketch-All trap in the chicken coop feed compartment,,,
this is what I caught in three hours,,,

The mice "dive" into the water, and drown,,, thinking it is a way out,,,

I have been told that if you can get hold of snake droppings and put them around the place rodents won't come anywhere near, it seems they know the smell and that they could be the next lunch.
A pet shop may supply them to you.
Having said that I haven't tried it but I notice that mice disappear when snakes are on the move.

Right before I dumped them,, they lined up for a family portrait,,,

I wonder if I can use windshield washer fluid?? I am pretty sure the Mason jar will break if it freezes,,,

This sure beats the heck out of ultrasonic results,,

If you use the ultrasonic, or any other type of "chaser",,,
won't the mice simply move to somewhere not effected by the devise?

I would hate to chase them out of the chicken coop,,, into the house,,,
or even worse,, chase them into the cab of the truck, or into the car!!

I made and used one of those five gallon plastic bucket with spinning wheel type mouse traps this fall. 35 mice tried it and fell to their death in the water in the bucket. Like what Eddie is talking in the post above - #25.

However - I will still put my money on a good 'ol barn cat or two.

Now I've tried the ultrasonic gopher repeller. They work to a degree but to drive all the gophers out of my yard I'd need at least 100 of those units.
The cats will catch a few gophers but it takes hours and hours of patience and most times the cat gives up and goes for a juicy mouth-mouse.
