Tractor
I did have a pedal John Deere once...
Not necessarily on tractors, but on anything from your car to your house!

I like to do things myself, if I can.

I service the car myself, maintain the house myself, and maintain the garden myself.

Only do I call in a professional if absolutely necessary.

I'm just interested to see what you guys do.

Yes, and sometimes I feel like I'll never get caught up. Jamie, if you just add up all the cylinders you have it can be an eye opener....get a paper and pen and don't strain your brain too much:D

If I stand out in my field and spin a compass there is a project that needs dooo-ing everwhere the arrow points:cool:

I do my own maintenance on tractor, vehicles, and house/property. I figure why pay someone to do it when i am capable. Lets see how many cylinders, 28 now and will be 32 when i buy a tractor in the spring.

Yep, all of the maintenance, and most of my own mechanic work. For one, it saves a bunch of money, I have the satisfaction of doing it myself, and I know it was done right. (there are VERY FEW mechanics that I actually trust enough to work on my vehicles and equipment)

BTW, if we're adding up cylinders, I've got 60, and that's just tractors and road vehicles. And, 34 of those are diesel. (I'm not even going to strain my brain and try to add up all the lawnmowers, chainsaws, blowers, trimmers, etc)

I do my own maintenance whenever possible. I've had to redo a "professional's" work to many times, so why pay for something I've had to redo? Also, I can do stuff like oil changes in less time than it would take me to have someone else do it. Having said that, I also try to find good professionals and let them do the things I can't.

Cars (2): I let the local guys take care of it. Got the tools, prefer for someone else to get dirty.

Home: Just finished a complete kitchen remodel, I did everything you can NOT see, electric, plumbing, heating. Hired out sheet rock, flooring, tiling, carpentry, hanging cabinets, and painting. Maintenance is all done my me, wife does the weeding.

I do now after having seen dad get ripped all these years. He hired alot of folks from word of mouth and often felt sorry for alot of sad story contractors. Now that I bought the house I grew up from him Ive got 30 years of half arsed repairs to take care of.

I do all the engine maintenance at work. my wife has a thing about oil changes at 3000 miles it has to be changed. She got mad one time that it went over 100 miles and went to Walmart service center. She got in the truck to leave and the oil presure gauge was jumping around. She shut it off and called me. I drove up there and wen i looked under the truck the oil filter was abnormally shiny. I looked at it and it still had the plastic dust bag over it. They never opened it. Also the Oring fro mthe old filter was still on the filter base. I do it all now.

And we have a winner! ddigger! Wow, that's a big project there...

Yeah I do almost everything myself. About the only thing I don't do is replace tires on the cars myself. Things like that requiring expensive specialized tools are about it. Heck, once I found out how cheap and easy car AC work is, I started doing all that too.

I do as much as I can. I know my limits, usually. I will call the pros when the time is right.

I dont trust proffessionals so I do it all myself.

Managed plastering walls laying floors decorating (cant see the joins in my wallpaper:cool:) car repairs including engine swaps clutches etc if I cant do it then the car is scrap. (except the new computer controlled ones which I dont want anyway)

I built my own brick garage 20 years ago and its still there, I welded up an 'A' frame to tow my race car with and it didn't break, fitted my own wood burner after sweeping the chimney first, do all my own plumbing and my late son taught me how to wire up household electrics so I dont have to pay so called experts to cock things up I can do it myself:laughing:

Oh and I change my own car tyres with levers, takes me a while but I get it done

Somebody did my concrete driveway a few weeks ago. Roofer replaced the roof on the barn that I had installed. Weather damage and I did not want to spend a month stripping and replacing myself. Part of the cost was insurance covered. But I do oil changes, clutches, car rebuilds, fuel pump seal replacements, shocks struts, everything except for car tires so far. Tractor tires I do myself usually as patching is when the tire store is closed. Generally I dry to do everything myself. I suppose when I am 70+ I will be like my parents and start subbing out work if I am not strong enough to do it myself.

Yes... I basically do everything.

It's not that I would mind having a hand or paying someone else to ease the burden.

The problem is that it takes almost the same amount of time doing many things as finding, supervising, dealing with problems as just doing the job myself...

The really good trades people are few and far between... I'm referring to the ones that do the job on time and on budget and you don't have to watch out that things don't disappear... such is life in the big city.

I also do my own.

But there are a few home repair items that I'm totally capable of doing that I just refuse to do anymore.

2 for sure that fit this category are re-roofing and painting the exterior.

No thanks

My parents home is in an older subdivision... I have painted the outside of their home twice since 1969... and it is ready again.

Mom's immediate neighbors with the same homes have painted many, many times... one probably every 3-5 years!

It takes me a couple of days to paint... power wash in the spring and let it dry for a week and then a good 2+ days...

The neighbors have a crew of 2 come and paint the same house in one day...

The difference is they all spray... I don't.
