Mine are rubber and soon became so loose they would fall off while I was operating. My neighbor, who can sometimes see the obvious when I can't, suggested hose clamps to snug 'em up. I haven't had one fall off since.

I also wear gloves and never gave it a thought as to why the cap comes off so hard, now I do.

I just received my Surplus Center catalog last week and was looking it over...

They have dust caps, male and female, for 3/8" lines for 49 cents each. I think I'll order a few sets at that price...
