Do you like your Colorado/Tacoma/Ranger?

The rangers are dirt cheap up here and are a good old design, most of the bugs worked out years ago. A brand new one last fall cost less than they did 8 years ago.

I know 2 guys at work bought them, another 1 bought Tacoma. The Tacoma is 4wd crew cab, cost a bit over 3 rangers.

I bought a Toyota for my last vehicle, not impressed considering the premium I paid. I'll be looking elsewhere next vehicle. Mine had to have a new engine and transmission by 60,000 miles.

My youngest brother has had a current model tacoma for several years. He really likes it and has not had any problems.

My Dad has had a couple of 90's Tacomas. He drives them into the ground around 250K to 300K miles. He abuses them most days of the week on the farms. He often skids the bottom over bumps and hills.

A General Contractor friend who owns a couple of newish F350s bought a Tacoma a few years back. I see him in the Tacoma much more often than the F350s.

I liked my Ranger, but that truck was a little dated. Mine was an '80. F250... They used to call the full size Ford's "Ranger". I think mine was a Ranger XLT.

I had a 90 ranger 2.9 5sp-sold with 100k+ on it, 94 3.0 auto-sold with 260k+ nothing more than oil and fluid changes/starters and alternators,1 or 2 water pumps(cant remember) and 1 radiator, 1 heater core and all hoses, belts, tires, brakes. Now have a 09 with 2.3 5spd auto and love this thing. A smidge more power,ton more drivability, and better mileage. Can't go wrong here.

Until recently had a 2004 Mazda b2300,4cyl(steel timing chain),5spd,extra cab.Basically a Ranger.Real good little truck for running around local in.Bought new never gave me a lick of trouble until then I had always purchased new Tacomas(4cyl.sticks).
Got good cash offer for it and bought 2011 f250 4x4 c/cab(6.7).

I had an '04 Tacoma 4-door 2WD. It was a pretty nice truck, definitely well-built, but I needed more to pull my boat, so I traded it for an '05 Titan, which I have today. I love my Titan :thumbsup:

Although it prob should be, I don't think the Tacoma's gas mileage was all that much better than my Titan's.

If you gonna put a little truck on the road, for cheaper commute costs, it doesn't make much sense to tag it, insure, and so forth, unless the mileage is really, really good. Mediocre? Not much point, and there are lots of small trucks with mediocre 17 ish mileage.

The Taco in a 4 banger will get you 22, but the Ranger will get you far better. Both assuming 5 speed overdrives.

So, we can talk all we want, but when shopping used, a guy has to buy what he stumbles upon. Got to go find it first. A good clean, commuter Ranger or Tacoma is rare. They are extremely popular among those in the know and the new sales figures don't support there being a ton of them out there.

I've got 140k on my 2000 PreRunner V6. Haven't done anything to it beyond regular maintenance except change the timing belt and waterpump. It runs as good today as it did the day I bought it. The interior and exterior look almost as good as the day i bought it. If I put it up for sale today I could have the money in the bank by lunchtime. The resale value is unmatched.

There is a reason they cost more.
