CurlyDave is absolutely right when he said, "She knows her daughter is irresponsible and is taking advantage of you. But, if you rub her nose in it, she will defend her daughter to the death." The more I think about his post the more it makes sense. A lot of insight in that sentence.

Your wife is the most important person to be considered in this scenerio. Try the Uhaul first, and if the poor daughter throws a tantrum, do what your wife says. I know...it's rewarding bad behavior and enabling poor baby bird daughter to be even more maniplative, but you are between a rock and hard place. You, (the step-husband), will be second in line, (daughter is first), when it comes down to a mother's decision...Sorry just the cold hard facts...

Not a chance in **** I'd loan it out in your situation. Offer to pay for a Uhaul. It'll still get the message across, she'll get a trailer and your stuff won't be wrecked.

My trailer goes with the truck, which goes with me. They pay for fuel. That eliminates any potential problems. If anyone is going to wreck my stuff, it's me!

no offense by any means, but it sounds like someone's step daughter is spoiled. i would say this is a great a time as any to let her see that life isn't always how YOU want it to be. does her boyfriend not have a trailer? does he not have any friends or parents that have a trailer? you said you dont like him much, so you might as well let her tear up his stuff if he happens to have a trailer.

I've loaned mine out several times and it's come back damaged. Guess who gets to fix it, yep, that's right, ME! Last time it was only a tire puncture. I didn't notice it untill the next day so, once again,,,. But would I loan it again to my friends? Sure will, but the list is getting narrowed down somewhat.

I have been loaning my tandem axle 7000lb trailer to a dear friend for years up until last month. He wanted to haul a jeep grand cherokee about 20 miles to the mechanic. He used nylon straps a no no, not enough tongue weight another no no, his tow vehicle was out of inspection a bigger no no and was driving way to fast. He got speed wobbles and before he knew it could not recover. The ending went like this. Hit the bridge peir or embankment, embankment is softter than bridge peir. Nylon straps broke, jeep ended up in bed of truck, which isn't supposed to fit there and tore tongue jack off of the A-frame of trailer. No one was injured and trailer suffered no structural damage but, HE KNOWS BETTER. No it won't be loaned anymore.

When I was younger, and poorer, I was very reluctant to lend anything to anyone. The only time I loaned my car to anyone, it came back with transmission troubles, but I couldn't say anything since it was the aunt who taught me to drive when I was 11 years old. But now, I loan almost any of my equipment to any of the family members. However, about the only thing they ever want to borrow is my little pickup truck.

This is one of those interesting ones Bird. My dad use to grip at me when I broke the lawnmower. Well I was the only one that ever used it so it would eventually break on me. In the case of your tranny, it might have broken on you in the next mile you drove it, but it broke on her. IMO that's just one of those things that happen and I personally would not accept money from anyone. ALso like when I was on Eddies dozer last fall moving some dirt, if the engine threw a rod I don't think he would ask for my checkbook. Things just happen and it was probably going to happen sooner or later.

Do what you need to do to see those kids, trucks and trailers can be fixed or replaced, those kids need to know grandpa (thats how I feel about my grandkids, Ill do most anything for them)

Call your insurance agent and make sure you have liability insurance coverage before that trailer leaves your driveway.
