Do you own a wheelbarrow?

Not so fast. As a libertarian, I support Randy's right to call his cart whatever he wishes, but it is still a cart.

Quoting the Bard of Avon:

What's in a name? that which we call a cart
By any other name would bear as well;

Steve

Ah, but, all 'barrow's' are, by definition a cart. Regardless of the number of wheels employed.

I put it to you that the ancient original design and implementation of a wheeled barrow was the flat decked with vertical, forward placed, bulkhead. It would have been an extension/improvement on the 'hod' for increased load capacity. Today's ubiquitous 'tub' is a relatively (historically) recent addition, yet when one espies the 'tub' shape (again, regardless of the number of wheels employed) the immediate interpretation of the device/vehicle is "wheelbarrow".

I bought my wife a ranger to use instead of her wheelbarrow, she still uses the wheelbarrow.

We have a dumping bed Gorilla cart like the one pictured below and it has replaced our three wheelbarrows. It holds more, navigates better and stores easier. Plus I can add stakes to the side for even more. Beyond that I use a loader.

The wheelbarrow is still the tool for concrete or animals but for all else is becoming scarce. Mine are for sale if interested. :D

This is awesome! An idea for another mod would be to put a platform to stand on. You could use this to check the mailbox as well on snowy days! :)

I'm surprised neither one of these guys have added to this thread. Oldmech had a thread on his design here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...rrow-bcs-grillo-gravely.html?highlight=barrow and also pictured below. Cmyoung2 had a nice version of his own http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...0148-power-wheel-barrow.html?highlight=barrow. Someday I hope to build one similar to these. For now, I have 3 old school, hand powered, wheelbarrows.

I just took a few pictures of my wheelbarrow modification to a "2-wheeler".P7140004.JPGP7140005.JPGP7140006.JPG I use it to move wood from the wood shed to the basement bulkhead for the wood stove.

Yes, I have a poor man's loader (wheelbarrow) with 2 aftermarket solid rubber tires. Pricey but worth every penny.

I've modified a hand truck with longer handle and solid rubber tires to pull cedar posts out of the woods. Since I don't use the truck often the solid tires were worth the cost.

Mine seems to always have a flat tire. It gets some use but more option I use FEL or cart behind 4Wheeler

3 - one needs work. We wear them out - rust, use, banged around. Cleaning the barn is the basic use. Used to get 6 cu ft. Now get 5 cu ft. Easier in mud and snow as we age.

I have one around someplace! Might actually use it someday but honestly hope that particular someday never comes!

Three. Two metal one plastic. Both metal have handles replaced with 1"x2" box tubing. One at home, one at the ranch and one (plastic) at cabin. The plastic one I used to move about 30 yards of fill dirt into our walk-out basement to level the floor. It has also been used to move a lot of firewood. One metal one I purchased in 1968. The other one I found in a dumpster with broken handles so I replaced the handles with the box tubing. My yard worker (aka "wife") uses the one at home quite often.

I am shocked! SHOCKED!!! That you would doubt my claim... So I immediately had to venture out on a cold Winters night and snap this photo.

Yes!!!!!

One standard type that I've replaced the tire with flat proof one, had to put bigger washers on the pan mounting bolts due to the rust drain holes. It's life currently is the push mower cover that also hasn't moved in at least a year.
I pushed that barrow through 6 dump truck loads of dirt building up our yard and untold amounts of field stone and mortar mixing BT(before tractor).
The other one is a big plastic one with cup holders! It's regulated to firewood from Woodstack to porch and the occasional planting of flowers. The Kubota's R1s are persona non grata on her front yard any longer.
