Do you regret getting a cab?

I just spent three days mowing blackberry patches and pushing over Autumn Olive trees and my Kubota is yellow now with all the pollen; love that cab.

I have always firgured it cost $1 to $2 per tractor hour to have a cab.(Depending on which tractor) I've never felt after 10 hours of hay baling that it wasn't a bargain . Another few days of weed spraying and definetly a bargain there. Putting out hay in a pouring rain at 35 degrees, priceless. I think it has a lot to do with what extreme conditions your job will incur and how long of a span of time you use it each day.
I have an older IH open tractor that I use on some of the smaller jobs and enjoy the openess it offers. But when I have a long day with blowing chaff, 100 degree heat, or thunderstorms, I'm in the cab.
I have always left one of the small rear side windows open specifically to hear the equipment. You quickly adapt to the normal sounds in the cab and when a problem developes you will hear very quickly unless you have the radio blasting hard.

I have had 3 tractor the last two were cabs.

advantages of non cab.

easy in and out.
better overall vision
feeling the fresh air on those perfect days
cost $$

advantages of cab

cool in summer (cold a/c)
warm in winter (warm as toast)
dry in rain (love operating in rain burning brush)
no dust (no alergies)
no insects (no wasps bees etc..)
quiet on the ears (no hearing loss)
no foul smells while operating (cow manure)
cd player (this will spoil you)
not worn out at the end of the day and still perfectly clean.

I've owned two tractors. The first one never had a cab but the Kubota got a cab and if it didn't I wouldn't sit in the seat. It's cold up here in the winter and hot in the summer. Love the heat and the AC :(

I spent yesterday bush hogging and will do the same tomorrow and for the rest of the week. When finished, I come in the house catch up on the news, eat, watch a little TV and relax. With an open station, I use to have to strip my clothes off in the garage, immediately check for ticks, hit the shower and spend hours sneezing with burning eyes and a headache.

Nope can't say I miss my open station tractor so much; actually still have it, just don't use it much.
:D What-a-Wus...... Real men don't have cabs....I'll bet John Wayne never had a cabed tractor. :D:laughing:

Ya know, we are becoming a rather soft bunch aren't we. Can you imagine back in the day when we were pulling the hay wagon behind the tractor and had 2 or 3 guys slinging hay bales up on it, if the tractor operator was sitting in the tractor with the A/C cranked ? I can see one of those bales getting slung through the windshield. :p

Every once in a while I think it might be better to have an open station tractor. Almost every time I start thinking that it starts to rain or sleet or big ornery stinging insects start bouncing off the glass loud enough to make a sound I can hear above the engine. About then I start thinking "nice cab:thumbsup:".
-20 somethingC (below 0F) blowing snow or smokin' hot spreading a load of crushed rock the cab is hard to beat. There are times I notice the reduced visibility and I am more diligent about trimming low branches other than that I enjoy the cab a lot.

yes you do get over the longing for an open cab tractor......i have never had any regreets Kubota L5240

I've always had tractors with foldable ROPS and my only protection from the elements was the clothing I wore. But I've got to admit there are times (winter at 20 below, bug season when swarms of skeeters or black flies torment me, steady soaking rain that eventually finds its way to my nether regions) when I really would have appreciated the protection. The problem is when I sit in a cabbed tractor it just doesn't feel tractor-like.

Do you get over that feeling? Are there other disadvantages of having a cab?

Pete

I did not like the cab at first. A bit restricted in visibility. I have come to like it more but my AC does not work up to snuff so it can get a bit warm in the summer.
