Depends on if you have a 64 or 32 bit version of Windows...I did the 64 bit version..

There is a little more to it than that. Most folks who have relatively new pc's have 64 bit if they are running Vista, W-7, or W-8.
However most of the internet browsing is done on the 32 bit browser. A lot of web sites are not compatible with 64 bit and it really isn't needed for internet use anyway. If you use IE and are clicking on the light blue e with the yellow circle around it you are using the 32 bit browser. The 64 bit looks like a globe from outer space.
Most software is still 32 bit and installs in a folder called Program Files (x86) if you look at your operating system.
The 64 bit system is mainly for software that needs more RAM than is available in 32 bit, such as Photoshop when you have many layers on an image.
So if you use a 32 bit browser on your 64bit pc you need to download the 32 bit java. They explain that on their site.
I have multiple computers, like Triple R, and most folks today. Since I have to use a Satellite which has a daily download limit I am always looking for ways to save on that as well as save time.
As Bird said earlier, the normal java download is 128 MB. That is because it usually has some other program, like Google tool bar, or some other, which you don't need or already have.
If you go to their download that is called "offline" it is only 32 MB since it doesn't contain any extra stuff that you would probably untick before installing the 128 MB download.
You can put the download on a thumbdrive and install it on however many computers you have as long as they are all Windows or all MAC. You can download MAC and other operating system versions from the same page.
Hope this helps.

FWIW...

just for the record..."javascript" is not "JAVA" and is not even related...regardless of the names...

Ant browser will run "javascript"...it is commn...You do not need JAVA to view web pages...many will not work without "javascript" enabled...but again...you do not need JAVA (virtual machine) on your PC unless a specific web site requires if for an application interface...

"JAVA" Not "javascript" is currently being warned about....
Good post, they aren't the same. We use a few applications that require java to run. Not only that, but they require two different version, argggg!

My computer said it was 64 bit, but wouldn't download the 64 bit version; loaded the 32 bit though. I haven't gotten to the other newer ones, I am on a satellite too.

Sounds like my life in general; if it ain't one thing, it's another. What I've done is disable the new version 7 update 11. If I go to the official U.S. time, it asks if I want to allow it to run, and I do, and when I close that website, Java is still disabled.

Bird,
There you go:thumbsup:
I did the same thing.
One of the guys said earlier that you needed it for gmail.
I sent myself an email from gmail to windows live mail, as a test, and it worked ok.
It may be folks that have gmail installed on their phones that need it? I don't know.
I'm one of the few people in the world that doesn't have and don't want a cell phone.
My wife has a cheapo that she bought for $14 years ago and buys some time for it every year in case we need one out in the car.
Otherwise it is off. I can't hear it anyway.
A gal on the TV yesterday talking about the flu was advising people to leave the crazy thing off and out of the bathroom, and to sanitize it often. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that, just the other idiots that use them while driving and playing with their GPS maps on the dash at the same time.
Off subject, I guess.

Ron, I don't use gmail, but daughters, sons-in-law, some friends, etc. do. As for cell phones, a daughter provides the T-Mobile cell phone for my wife on some kind of family plan, so it doesn't cost me anything. However, I got our first cell phone in 1999 for my wife to carry, after she rolled and totalled her car (kind of like locking the barn door after the horse gets out). Anyway, after some years of $30+ a month, I changed to a prepaid AT&T cell phone and a 10 cent a minute plan. But I have to add $25 to it every 90 days or it might expire. So with taxes and such, it costs me $9.09 a month and is rarely used, and I have a balance right now of more than $200. I never turn it off, but if I'm driving and it rings, I have no problem ignoring it. After I'm off the street and safely parked, it'll either show the information on the missed call, or it'll show a voice mail message.

Bird,
It appears that this TBN site needs JAVA turned on to upload a picture either by attachment or by direct insertion.
Try one with JAVA off and see.

OK, Ron, I posted a picture at the cutest puppies thread and it worked even though I have Java disabled.
