Do your own Fluids and Filters on a BX

At one time, on BX's they said change the fluid and clean the screen at 50 hours. I'm not sure but on newer machines, I think they say just clean the screen at 50 hours.

Very true. But forever, they said to change at 50 hours. That is, until the competition started touting their "no change" policy as a reason to buy their brand instead of Kubota. I still change at 50 or so hours and also change the front axle oil as well. But that's just me.

I did my screen at 100-110 hours after draining the hyd fluid. I don't believe it was torqued by a gorilla, but had to pull a lot harder on it to get it out of the hole than I expected. Not much if any metal.

I went to change my hyd oil filter and found that I almost had a problem while operating. The side of the filter was knocked in, but it wasn't leaking. I'm not sure if the previous owner did that or I did. No leaks and now I have BXpanded armor on the bottom to hopefully fend that problem away as well as problems with the HST fan in the future.

Things change! That's some times hard for us maturing individuals to accept because we learn what's right and correct and move on to learn more new "stuff" while methods, engineering, research and materials are constantly changing. Oil and tolerances and even the metal from 1960 isn't the same as it is in 2016. Over the 12 years I've been buying Kubotas the frequency of fluid and filter change schedules has changed several times. I've had to change from the 1965 mentality to the 2000s mentality and it's hard.
Saw on TV:confused3::shocked::eek::D:cool2: where car dealerships are hiring 16 year olds to teach customers how to use the new electronic features on their cars/trucks. I have a 2017 Cadillac XT5 that stops for me and steers the vehicle when I deviate across the line on the side or middle if I don't give a turn signal as well as beep when another vehicle is approaching from my side and lights up the mirror when a vehicle is in my blind spot. I think it will stop itself when I back up before hitting something! Seat heats, steering wheel heats and A/C blows on my butt and back!!! We have to accept change or at least get out of the way for those who do!!

Just a reminder to check your filters before leaving the dealership to make sure they gave you the right part numbers. I bought the fluids and filters some time ago to service my BX23. I finally got around to it yesterday.

Drained the oil and removed the oil filter. Went to grab the new oil filter, and discovered it was much larger in diameter than the correct one. The one they sold me is the one that fits a BX2660 and other models. The BX23 filter is much smaller. The correct part number is HH150-32430.

Amazon to the rescue. The correct filter will be here on Monday via Amazon Prime.

I removed the key from the BX23 to make sure nobody gets on it and starts it up in the meantime.

Not only do I remove the key, I put tape in the center of the steering wheel that says "NO OIL" if I leave the area or overnight during the oil change. I have heard enough horror stories over the years.

Great advice on posting a clear sign, DO NOT USE or similar. I recently drained the oil in one of my air compressors and then let it sit after realizing I was out of compressor oil. Took me a awhile to get around to it... almost fired it up, when a 'light bulb went on' and questioned myself if I ever finished the job.

Well, I took the left rear tire off the BX23 and got ready to clean the screen for the hydraulic fluid. And now I can't budge the bolt head on the screen assembly. I've tried a long handled ratchet, and I even hit it with my impact wrench. No joy. I darn sure don't want to round off the head or twist the darned thing off. Dang it.

I'm gonna put some Kroil on it today and let it soak overnight to see it that helps.

By the way, on the BX23 that bolt head on the screen assembly requires a 26mm socket. Of course, I had a 25mm and a 27mm, but no 26mm. Amazon to the rescue once again.

Got to ask... Does the '23 have a locking tab and small bolt next to the strainer like my '24 does? It comes out first...

Mine also had a locking tab and bolt. Maybe yours is covered with gunk?
