Mrwurm exercise is the 2nd key to weight loss and good health. Diet is definitely important. However, exercise is just as important and is always overlooked. If you only concentrate on diet it's like having half of a $100 bill. You've got half of something worth something but to have it's full value you need the other half. This is health.
Now as far as how it benefits you. The first thing that aerobic exercise does is build up the conditioning of the heart. The heart is a muscle and the exercise for the heart is aerobics.
The next thing that exercise does is that it will decrease stress in the body. Stress is a killer. With relation to weight loss it decreases the levels of cortisol in the body which are partially responsible for weight gain.
Exercise will also help to level out insulin levels. With diet alone it gets very complicated. This is one of the reasons why it's good to eat six meals a day and avoid processed foods and sugar. If you get into insulin spikes and lows again you will get weight gain. Exercise helps to level these out.
From a blood chemistry standpoint exercise is going to increase your good blood lipids and decrease the bad blood lipids. Cholesterol is also going to be lowered.
One very important thing that happens is over time is that metabolism will increase over time with exercise. Increased metabolism means you burn more calories doing nothing. It is what your body burns everyday to keep you alive. You lose your BMR, basal metabolic rate, at a 10-20 fold increase over gaining. The reason for this is that our bodies are setup to deal with decreased amounts of food very well. On average it will take 6-12 months to reset the BMR. This is why those 30 day fad diets work for a short time. I can kick you in the butt and tell you to eat lettuce for a month and you will lose weight. But after about 30 days your BMR will reset to a lower weight and no matter what you do you will not lose weight. Not eating is not the way to lose weight. Also this is why people gain back more weight than they lose. They go on these fad/crash diets for 30 days, lose a little weight, and then go back to their old ways. Well if you have decreased calories you're going to reset your BMR to a lower rate. Thus you won't be burning as many calories. Now the BMR does NOT go back up by eating normally again. The BMR will only go back up with exercise!!!
Exercise is also going to increase your lean body mass. Muscle burns calories and fat does not. The higher your body fat the less calories you burn. Also after exercise your body will burn calories at a higher rate for 2-3 hours after the exercise. You not only get the benefit of the increase calorie burn during exercise but after as well. With increased muscle mass you will be healthier, tire less easily, have more energy, and be able to do more work.
You will also benefit the bones and decrease your risk of osteoporosis. Bones respond to exercise. Bone is just like any other tissue in that it is very much alive and responds to stresses.
There are so many more benefits of exercise as well. Just remember diet is only part of the equation.
