Does a boxblade / bucket make for decent excavator?

You didn't buy one heavy enough!

It looked to be as heavy as the Bush hog that was 400 bucks more. I thought of how many times a year that I would use it and said to myself that the TSC one would be sufficent. Ok so its not the first time that I lied to myself and it won't be the last. I fixed it yesterday. All is well for now.

I have a couple of related questions about BB's. I'm getting a FEL installed on my tractor today and have ordered a toothbar. I didn't think about needing one until I read several other threads here on TBN. I want to even out an old road bed that runs down the side of my property. I'll probably start one of those project threads when I get to it.

Anyway, my questions:
I have been looking at a TSC 72" KK box blade, is that one heavy enough?

The 72" BB would weigh more, but that weight is spread out over 6 feet. Would the 60" one work better? (I have a Ford 6610, so I figured I'd get the biggest BB I could find.)

Thanks as always.

With a Ford 6610, you are going to be able to pull pretty much any box blade you can find.

I don't know if a 6' blade would even cover the wheels of a 6610 (82HP I think).

You would definitely want to cover your wheel width or otherwise you will never get a smooth finish.

We found this the hard way but couldn't help it as it is so hard to get a BB in the UK.

I would definitely go for 84"

I also found that big farm tractors love to pull BB and other implents designed for CUTS apart

Nothing is going to stop the Ford and that BB :D

Well, unfortunately the 84" one is out of my price range, but that's what it would take to cover the tracks. My tractor is about 8' wide. I thought about that deal with not being able to leave a nice smooth finish... 2 options. I do have an 8' rear blade, so that's an option, also I could drag the FEL backwards if I had to. Actually, option 3 will come in to play as well in a couple years when I get my 2nd tractor for the farm. Probably a 4610 range machine. :)

If you think that you can live without being able to cover your tracks, all is well.

But I find it very hard not being able to cover my tracks. It means the tractor cannot go in the channel created by the BB so you cannot make foundations for a roadway or other digging project very easily.

It also means you cannot get up to edges which is annoying.

I don't know if they come up secondhand where you live but you may be able to find a second hand one which is wider?
