Does any angle steel come punched with holes?

Does any angle steel come with holes in it? I'm building a small cultivator and could use some 1/4" thick angle iron punched with holes like the steel shown in the attached photo. I've searched the info I have and can't find anything with holes in it. I could use some of that super duty sign post material because it's pretty thick and punched with holes but stock steel would be better. Either that or drill a bunch of holes.



Anyone know if steel angle iron comes with holes in it?

I think most of the pre punched would be lighter gauge and shorter lengths, like for those gray metal shelving units or garage door hardware.
The supplier might offer punching, if they normally do specialty cutting and forming. Or a small fab shop might take it on, probably will have a relatively high cost for a short run as setup is the big issue. I guess it depends on how much you want to avoid standing at the drill press; if it's only one stick I'd do it myself but a dozen or more might be worth farming it out.

Might want to invest in a set of these Jancy Slugger High Speed Steel Annular Cutter Set (10 piece), Uncoated (Bright) Finish, 1/2" Annular Shank, 5/8" Depth, 1/2" - 1-1/16" Sizes: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific if you plan on drilling that many holes. These anngular cutters fit in a standard 1/2in chuck and are several times faster cutting small holes than a twist drill or a hole saw. I have a similar set made by snapon and love them on thin (1/2in or less) metal

flyerdan--I have to dill either 39 or 52 holes...most likely 39. Mudstopper...that's a great hole drilling idea but the cost for a one time use is too much.

There is a fab shop near me that would punch them but not sure there is enough room to get in there. The thought is 1 1/2" equal angle by 1/4" thick. Sounds like I'm drilling them.

You can buy the bits seperate. If you have a good drill press, it shouldnt take to long with a twist drill, use a good cutting oil. WD40 and the like isnt good cutting oil for drill bits.

Check with your local machine shop. Depending on the type of iron worker they have, enough clearance to punch your holes in the center of inch and a half angle may be possible. Or if you don't already have the material, you could go a little wider (1.75 or even 2").
You may have to modify your 3 pt hitch mast to retain the right distance though.

What about redesigning it to use larger perforated square tubing, which may be about the same strength as a smaller, thicker angle?

That's not a rod weeder...this is a rod weeder. It has a counter rotating shaft that skims a couple of inches under the soil. A little bit about the inventor here: George Morris
