Does any angle steel come punched with holes?

You will need 3/8" angle. But what you should look for is a Pittsburg cultivator frame. There are plenty in old junk piles around many farms. This frame is what you are really looking to create, and most of them can be bought cheaper than it will cost for you to make one.

In my last REALLY big clean up (in 2001)I know I loaded out at least three frames into the 40 cu yd scrap metal container. BTW scrap metal is down to $50 a ton here. Terry

There is one coming up at an auction that someone lost most of the shanks on. One of my thoughts is to try to buy that for a good price and then add the third crossbar. I have bought and sold lots of these cultivators over the years and the price can be all over the place so I might get lucky.

You would be shocked to see what a cultivator in good shape can bring around here. If typical with rusty this and that with bad bolts and worn out cultivators it can be bought for maybe $100 to$200 or even $350 at a typical small farm auction. Under the right conditions with nice paint, bolts and good sweeps it could go for $450 to $550. Dealer prices of $600 are common. To me, that's a shocking number.

It used to be that $100 was the going rate if all the shanks were there.

If you have a halfway decent drill press (one with 3 pulleys), you can probably drill 40 holes in less time than it would take you to make 2 trips to any shop that will punch the holes for you.

Plus if you do decide to get them punched you'd have to lay out and center punch the holes anyway to save on shop time.

l'm trying different paths now that will take a few weeks to sort out so I'll report back as things develop. Trying to find an old Ferguson cultivator frame first at an auction, then will buy steel an drill myself if that doesn't work.
