OK, OK, scotty,
I traded it for a Weatherby12ga pump. Think I got the better of the deal? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I usually carry my old M-1 carbine in the scabard except during quail and dove season. thought about mounting another scabard so to carry both? Like other good stuff...chainsaws, guns, cupholders...if one is good then 2 is better. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's a better pic of it.

( You can also get "snake shot" for your pistol or .22 that shoots little pellets like a shot gun. Should be good enough for snakes. )

.22 shot shells fired from a rifle or handgun are a waste of time for anything bigger than a mouse or rat. And then only if they are closer than 20'. Now shooting them out of a .22 smoothbore makes a little more sense.

I have the "Tamer" in .410 and it's not a bad little gun. Tamer It's vitually the same as the Snake Charmer but it's made by H&R.

I have one and as was posted "SnakeCharmer" is the correct name. Years ago I kept it mounted behind the panel that the bunk curtain attached to in our Kenworth. It was easily retrievable from either seat and gave us protection from snakes, as we were driving through NYC in stop-n-go traffic for instance.

These days we only use it for snakes and it works well. You shoot it like a pistol. Theres a place in the stock to store 4 shells (as long as they aren't the longer 410 shells).

Easy to carry, easy to shoot, kills snakes dead, looks intimidating if you are viewing it from the barrel end, and makes a BIG bang when fired. Oh, and cheap to buy... I think I only paid about $20 a few decades ago.

As has been confirmed Snake Charmer is the correct name for it, I own one for the exact purpose you describe it is very accurate I even shoot clay pigeons once in a while with it for grins I don't try for doubles though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Also they list that it will shoot all 410 loads but I'm on my second, the first I owned one day and the longer shells I think like 3" or magnums or something about ate the firing mechanism I returned it and although illegal to accept returned guns in Texas or so they told me they took one look and exchanged it for me. Its not the best made gun in the world and you need to check the splined pins once in a while if you shoot it much but also like was said its cheap and a great snake gun for the tractor. Its hard to find a Walmart that handles them around here so I paid the extra $5 and got it at a gun shop but I hear Walmart will order things that you don't find in their store that is listed on the web but you gotta wait and after 2 rattlers in one day loading brush they could have charged me a lot more extra and I'd have still left with it. By the way also mentioned was rat shot in a 22 one of my hunters religiously carried his smith with rat shot and he shot at a couple of snakes last year with it far as I know they are both still crawling around not for me if I point something at em I want to blow them into pieces not have them crawl away mad.

I had some of that one time except I think it was called bird shot, I was not impressed with the stuff. I used it to burn some dogs that were being a nuisance,it did not seem real powerful/effective,but it may have been the type it had.

Rob, man, I knew we were kinda neighbors but, didn't know we were M-1 carb brothers. I take back everything I was thinking about your suggestion about the worthless .22 bird shot /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
For the sake of the thread, as far as rattlers in Kalifornia go, I just find a stick to tease it and let it squirt/strike till it's tired then just use the stick to lay it's head down then cut it off with a knife. It's just a snake.
So, anyway, gotta love the M-1 carb ... what other rifle had an "issue" HOLSTER?!!!
Cheers!

There are two made. One is the "Tamer", made by H&R, that I linked to in my previous post, the other is the "Snake Charmer", made by Verney-Carron. Snake Charmer They are almost identical in appearance and function. The Snake Charmer has a SS barrel while the "Tamer" has a nickel plated barrel. In my opinion that makes the Snake Charmer slightly better, but my Tamer was a gift, so that makes it the better deal. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Either one is a great snake gun. Both are suitable for larger game with buckshot or slugs.

I just heard that Taurus is making a revolver which will shoot both .410 shotgun shells and .45 long colt. You can even mix them in the same cylinder.

Because the barrel is rifled, the pattern is much wider, around 18" at six feet, which is very good for snakes.

The cost is higher, but this is a very versatile gun. Even handles .410 slugs.
