Oklahoma issues a farm tag for your trucks ... Flat Fee $35.00, you must have your Farm Tax Execemption Card to get your farm tag.

NY issues Farm plates which are quite restrictive when one follows the rules. NY also issues an Agriculture plate which is more of a commercial plate at a reduced cost with no sales tax due on the vehicle purchase. This is a pupolar option.

You can get farm truck tags in Texas just by asking for them. One year the DPS did go to the rodeo and ticket all the trucks that had farm tags that were no towing a trailer. Kind of hard to make it stick though. They do not really enforce the requirements.

In Missouri you can get farm plates, however I believe they are only supposed to travel in the local area and on farm business. They are exempt from some rules and regulations:

Trucks with Missouri farm license plates designated for farm use by the "F" tab, and licensed for 42,000 pounds or less, are exempt from:

• Most of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, when operating in Missouri intrastate farm commerce only.

This Missouri farm plate exclusion basically exempts farm vehicles licensed for 42,000 lbs or less from the DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation driver qualifications and file, medical qualification & certification card, hours-of-service rules, and the maintenance file requirements.
Farmers and farm truck drivers are still required to have a Class E Missouri driver's license or CDL. If a CDL is required, then drug & alcohol testing requirements must be met also. Drivers must be at least 18 years old, speak English, and be physically capable of operating a truck safely. All trucks must be operated with the proper equipment and comply with Missouri state traffic laws.

I see a fair number of trucks around here with no tags at all. I assumed they were "farm" trucks. Lots of them have bale spikes mounted in back. Sure would hate to get into a wreck with one of those, even if the spikes were in the upright-and-locked position.

I agree Ron. If you commute, you'll see people who obviously use their trucks and trailers in the construction business. Many of these have farm tags and their their trucks and trailers are used as daily commuter/haulers. If you go around a construction site for a shopping center or apartment complex, you can usually find several "farmer's" vehicles. I think some of them also think landscaping and mowing yards is farming.

I currently have farm truck plates on my s-10 blazer. Suvs are permited to have farm truck plates. It does save some money, can't remeber how much. I also have a farm, all 3 1/4 acres of it. They don't even ask, you just tell them you want to have farm plates.

Just did a quick seartch and found this information.

* Transporting the person痴 own poultry, dairy, livestock, livestock products, timber in its natural state, or farm products to market or another place for sale or processing.
* Transporting laborers from their place of residence to the owner痴 farm or ranch.
* Transporting without charge, materials, tools, equipment, or supplies from the place of purchase or storage to the owner痴 farm or ranch exclusively for the owner痴 use or for use on the farm or ranch.
* Transporting the owner痴 family:
to attend church or school:
to visit a doctor for medical treatment or supplies: or
for other necessities of the home or family.
* May not use a vehicle registered under this section in connection with gainful employment other than farming or ranching.
* May not use a vehicle with a "FARM TRUCK" license plate to tow a trailer with a "TOKEN TRAILER" license plate.


Looks lilke I am legal to use farm plates. I have no idea what a token trailer is though.

*Looks like it may be saying you can tow a trailer with out a plate but you can't tow a trailer with a plate on it.
Simple solution ; just take the plate off the trailer to tow it.

That is the way it is here in VA, but ppl abuse it terribly.. IIRC You can use the 'farm plates' to seek medical treatment, farm supplies, attend church, to/from livestock market, vets, and a couple other things..

But drive by any restaurant and you will see new Expeditions/gussied up pickups/explorers etc with the farm plate - that have probably never been off the road..
