Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Hey getut,
I used to really like those old jeeps. Steel dashdoard, spare tire on the right-hand rear corner of the body, manual transmission, tailgate etc. NO radio. NO A/C.
The reason I discuss Jeeps is because like the Corvette, [which I wouldn't own one unless I could trade it for a pickup]
almost everyone wants one, and its been in production like forever, so you can see what a useless evolution it has had. It has become just another softie. [but I still want one.]
Another one - look at the useless evolution that the neat Toyota Land Cruiser used to be, and what is has become. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Same goes for Land Rover. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
My point is, it's all a compromise. And the retail after market trade depends on people wanting to change things they don't like on their vehicles.

Perfect truck - doesn't exist. But, let me start with something close. And add $$$$ to it and it will get pretty close. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Those new fangled plastic bed liners are only good for people that don't use their truck for much more than a sack or two of groceries or a sack of feed now and then. The real value in a plastic bed liner is to cover up the damage in the bed when you go to sell or trade the truck. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

I do a lot of haulin with my super duty ford pickup..
really like the crew cab, the 4x4 comes in handy
I WANT
1. two transmissions, like the big trucks, maby a 5x3 or 5x4
2. a REAL engine break --- NOT an exaust break
3. REAL proportional trailer breaks -- tried everythin from electric to vacume over hydraulic...nothin beats air
4. parking breaks on all axels,,, I mean lock'em down

Get all this stuff on a 3/4 or one ton??? it will never happen.

"two transmissions, like the big trucks, maby a 5x3 or 5x4"

Man, you're dating yourself!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifCan you even get a multi stick transmission setup in an OTR truck anymore? Those two stickers were a PITA, what you really need is more torque! Get more motor and you can skip all that shifting. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Ya can, usually only see em on heavy haul rigs and not more than a 2spd or 3spd. Behind an 18spd, it offers plenty of speed choices to get that 100-200 tons moving... Some of those trucks even run planetary reduction axles but I've wandered off topic... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Doesn\'t exist (My perfect truck)

Well I guess I'd settle for an automatic.. one that can handle the torq of the modern diesels.. hope the cheverolet - allison proves to be good.
But I still want and need some sure enough PARKING BREAKS.
I need a better "woa" system. Fully porportional, no more "piddling" with the break controller as driving conditions change.

I am just like some of my valued coustomers... they want a new $10,000.00 tractor / loader that will do what a new $30,000.00 rig will do. They want a $400.00 post hole diggers that can knock holes in the interstate all day long..... NOTIN RONG WIT DAT, I want it too!

"those two stickers were a PITA" -- OK, I'll bite on that one, can you tell me what a "PITA" is ?

Best set up I ever built was a 15 over with a 4 speed behind it, 377 rears, with only 400 ponies up front.. LOTS of low and enough high, with everything I needed inbetween.

Face it, I just need a bigger truck again. I hate to get back into that heavy tax, pee in the cup, and "show me your coloring book" stuff again...
