Dog and the Mail Lady

The Federal Government has deep enough pockets if their carriers gets attacked to resolve anything needed--
I can't believe someone would post the above. Quaffer, would you be willing to be attacked by a dog and hope money could take care of any injuries you suffered? What if you were blinded? Have you ever had a life changing injury? If so did you get enough money for the injury to be worth it? If a dog tore up your face how much money would it take to be worth it? Sheesh!

I have befriended a few USPS and UPS employees over my 30 years of working with them and shipping stuff everyday, and getting bitten by dogs really is a huge problem for them.

One funny case was when my best friend's Rottweiler bit my regular UPS driver. I didn't know about it, until I hired my best friend to work with me, and my UPS ran into him at our place of work. He said, "don't you live at [address]?", and when my buddy said yes, the driver told him what had been happening. Nasty dog, who was usually locked safely indoors... but apparently not always!

So, I understand the mail lady's desire to not have to walk up to any house with what appears to be a vicious dog inside. Do that 6 days per week, year after year, and eventually there will be one time when the door isn't latched properly, etc.

But it seems to me the easy solution is to put up a mailbox out at the road, or switch delivery to a PO box. Neither is as convenient has having the mail brought right up to the front door, but if you're going to house a dog that scares the mail lady, these seem like reasonable compromises.
Road 28 feet from front door.

Sidewalk curbside… not sure because true road box would obstruct sidewalk too much I think.

I agree. I don't care how much insurance a person has - I'm not going near a house with a known vicious dog. Especially when the only thing between me and that dog is an 85 year old remembering to latch the door.
No bite or attack history but sure has bark and snarl perfected.

Agreed. The problem is that, particularly for those is more urbanized areas, they're surrounded by too many people who don't take care of their own.
That is the main reason we had to move out of town into the country. Idiot neighbor with 3 dogs that would never shut up. Couldn't go into my yard without those damn dogs yapping at me.

I had a similar situation, in that the family who lived next to my first house has a dog they'd leave out for hours in the middle of the night (like 2am - 3am), who would sit right under my bedroom window and just howl for 30 minutes at a time, wanting to be let back inside... all while they apparently slept soundly and oblivious to their pet outside. I remember calling over there at least twice in the wee hours, asking them to let their damn dog inside, and they were irritated at me for waking them up! 😲

When I sold that house, I took immense pleasure in the fact that my buyer had three large and loud dogs, that I can only hope continue to keep my old neighbor up at all hours, to this day. :ROFLMAO:

County music to me. ;)
Lots of shots, cattle, dogs. roosters, geese and all the other critters. No traffic, sirens or loud music.

Cattle, rooster, and geese are generally quiet at 2am, as are hunters outside the city.

No coyotes here, and I keep my trash bins in the garage to avoid the racoons and bears that like to knock them over, around here.
