Well, I know that dog preferences can be worse than oil or tractor wars but---beagles---well, what did you expect? Sorry to be tough on this but you got what you wanted and now they are yours--forever, my opinion.
OK, dogs, all dogs, like a set routine or schedule. Mine know our schedule and shift from my Mon-Thurs night schedule to my weekend off day schedule without missing a beat. You are going to have to enforce the schedule. Don't let them out for their 2AM walk abouts. Take walks and dinners/meal time and backyard time on a routine that they can count upon. Adult healthy dogs only need one meal per day, time it so that they eat and get in some outside time before bedtime. When they are older you may have to shift to a morning and evening meal. Mine currently eat about 5PM but now since they are "old" dogs I give them a light brunch in the morning for energy. In time, they will adapt. The key is TIME and consistency.
The other day we had gone for a walk along the fence line. I get back and let them lay about in the front yard as they are accustomed to doing before being put into the backyard till bed time. Well, problem is I have two alpha males. They are great buddies but darn if there are times when they are not. Well, the pestiferous one wanted to play and stepped on the codgery "bitey" one and all hades broke loose. Dog fight /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. People who think collies will not fight obviously have not met these two /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Well, my wife is running around yelling for me to do something, I am trying to but she knocks me on my rear as I try to grab one of them running around like a chicken with no head--watch out--watch out you will get bit. Finally I, I was able to get to my feet and grabbed the pestiferous one and had him, all 70ish lbs, held over my head while the codgery one pressed the attack. Yep, he (90ish lbs) had his paws on my chest and was after the other one. Now---he was not even close to biting me, he has never bitten--ever--even when hurt but he was p----ed at his pal. Finally I had my thoughts together and I gave the down command and he went down. Five minutes latter they were best pals again laying in my lap. Point is, any dog is capable of odd behavoir if provoked and old dogs don't like getting stepped on. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. J
