Had to put my 16 year old German Shorthair down last week. Still painful as she was still getting around but couldn't control her bladder or bowels. I had moved her inside a couple years ago and it just got to be too much. She stayed in an unfinished room in the basement.
Last summer I was on a fishing trip and her sister (i've had both since puppies) couldn't get up. Wife took her to the vet and one shoulder was cancerous. She had to be put down. For some reason that one was easier to deal with since I was not there.
We are down to our Australian Shepherd / Blue healer mix now. He's a great companion.

Our pit, she'll be to next month. Sometimes she gets her nose about 1" away from the pull cords on the fan. :dance1:
Reminds me of our Boston Terrier. The girls had a tether ball in the back yard; the pole was set in concrete. Our Boston, Mr. Muggs, would play tether ball by himself, and got to where he would hold on to the ball with his teeth and swing around the pole...until one day the pole broke off; he had managed to fatigue the pole to the point of failure.
We had a dog as kids that would grab a sock and you could carry her around the house clamped on to the sock.
Poor dog lost her teeth at around 8 years old and had to eat canned food. I think us kids caused that to happen.
