It will depend on the size holes you are seeing. We frequently will find holes from beetles and worms that like to burrow into a fresh mound.
One big way dogs get parasites and worms is by stepping in infected poop and then licking their feet. Yummy! So if you have multiple dogs or frequent dog visitors it's a good idea to scoop the poop.
We have a 145# irish wolfhound puppy and 140# pyrenees. We go by a simple rule in our house, if you step in it it's your own fault. You can trip over the size mounds these guys leave.

My neighbors never pick up their dog poop either, because their dogs leave it in my yard so they don't have to worry about it.

I've never admitted this in public, but then again, I've never read a dog poop thread before either. But, this is really distasteful (pun, as you will soon see, is intended). My dogs eat their poop. The good thing about this is no stepping in their mess. On the other hand, they do come inside with some really foul breath.

BTW, you didn't use to post on an ATV forum a few years ago under a different name, did you? There was a guy from WV with a similar outlook on life as you. Enjoyed reading his posts, too.

I don't pick it up either. We have six goldens on 155 acres, but they pretty much all poop in the yard or the field just below. I don't worry about the field, but the wife likes the play in the yard so I use the rear blade angled to scoop out a shallow trench at the bottom of the yard. Then I get the backpack leaf blower and perform the Semi-Annual Blowing of the Poop. Yup, I blow them turds down the yard into the trench, angle the blade the other way and back up to bury it, then spread flower seeds on top.
Problem solved.

Pick up dog poop?
I always thought dog poop was fertilizer. I just move the dog's leash to a different spot in the yard every so often to keep it green all over. Dog isn't trained to stay on the property yet so have to use the leash or he will wander out in the road. There are some drivers on my road that are not trained or have common sense either. They don't slow down when they see an animal loose and don't stop when they hit something. Already had to put one dog down a few years back because she got run over and it broke her back and the driver kept going.
