Dogs in Lowes Store

It really comes down to a liability issue...some municipalities have no pets in public place laws and regulations(not just food service places)...There will always be those that think they are privileged characters though...and there will always be those that use work arounds...like this: Instant Service Dog Registration : Service Dog Registry

Not if he's got about 8 .45 cal slugs where his chest used to be. Someone tries to hurt one of my dogs, they're going to need a lot more than a lawyer.

Again, we almost never (can count on one hand in the last several years) take any of our dogs anywhere. But I can't get over all the princesses complaining on here about seeing a dog in a Lowe's or Home Depot, or other similar store where there is no food being sold or served. For a bunch of "rural-outdoorsy type" folks, to fall all to pieces about a dog in a hardware store. Just unbelievable.

Well I don't exactly approve of that approach either.

However our dog is a rescue and does not do well if we take her out to public places so we don't. Prior dog was very good in public so she went with us if it was places she was allowed.

I am shocked on this site the number of people who are objecting to seeing a dog at Lowes.

The worst is the county's Department Of Geography Park. There were dogs everywhere!

I can't understand how people can be so fragile and just need to have their dogs with them everywhere they go. "Comfort dogs," you have to be kidding me. Dogs should stay home or in the car.

I was in HD the other day and a guy came toward me leading his dog on a leash. He says "watch out for the poop on the floor back there". I like well behaved dogs, but that was a little much.

The other now common thing is fake service dogs. You can buy little dog jackets on the Internet that say "Service Dog" and now everyone's dog is a service dog and stores are not allowed to challenge it.

All this crap will eventually just get dogs banned from places that make sense to have your bud tag along. Or watch what happens when a dog nips someone at Loews.

We frequently see dogs, being socialized by their volunteer trainers, at Home Depot, and Lowes.
The dogs are from Southeast Guide Dogs in Palmetto, Fl.
They are loaned to private families for 18 months, to raise, and socialize them for future guide dog work.
"that's crossing the line"?
How would you suggest such training be accomplished, without using public/business locations?
The dogs are usually Labrador Retrievers.
There is a LONG volunteer waiting list !!!!

Reading is fundamental.

But these days, any bad behavior is perfectly okay as long as it's for (my) pet good cause. Or because somebody "means well".

generally I am against dogs (any pets) in retail establishments. I am in my 80s and have seen this evolve over the years. In my younger days it was verboten everywhere, but then people were more civil in those days. It just goes along with the social mores that have replaced the earlier ones that embraced common decency. It is now all about me and the **** with everybody else. I have seen a few less than desirable encounters between people and dogs at my local Lowes; some bordering on possible assault by the dog and dog owner attitudes toward any public reaction. Just takes time and this will blow up in some store and create an expensive incident and you will see dogs banned. Animals will revert to their natural instincts if provoked regardless of their training.

We love our gentle Lab but she stays at home or in the car/truck.
