Dogs in Lowes Store

I don't mind dogs at Lowes. It's a big store and there's room for hem.

But at the Lowes near me, there are often 4 or 5 people in the store, with their dog trainer, socializing their dogs. I think it's a group class.

I think that's crossing the line.

We frequently see dogs, being socialized by their volunteer trainers, at Home Depot, and Lowes.
The dogs are from Southeast Guide Dogs in Palmetto, Fl.
They are loaned to private families for 18 months, to raise, and socialize them for future guide dog work.
"that's crossing the line"?
How would you suggest such training be accomplished, without using public/business locations?
The dogs are usually Labrador Retrievers.
There is a LONG volunteer waiting list !!!!

The dogs I see in these stores are better behaved than some of the people there. I saw a Great Dane last week at Menards. He startled me from behind in the checkout line when he was sniffing my pant cuff, no doubt checking out the smells from my dog. He was a nice big young boy though, and very well behaved.

Reminds me of the joke about an innkeeper being asked if he would allow dogs to stay there. The innkeeper's reply, "Well, considering that I've never had a dog skip out on a bill or steal any towels - if your dog will vouch for you, you both are welcome to stay."

I can't understand how people can be so fragile and just need to have their dogs with them everywhere they go. "Comfort dogs," you have to be kidding me. Dogs should stay home or in the car.

Nice. Any Kentucky laws against aggravated assault? So let’s get this straight, some fellow Kentuckian was feeding his dog on a leash at a gas station. A child tried to take the food because he wasn’t getting fed at home by his parents. When bitten, aforementioned parent grabbed the leash from the owner, kicked the dog numerous times and then beat the dog against an I-beam until he killed it. After witnessing this YOU would have would have additionally knocked the dogs owner’s teeth down his throat?! This is very disturbing.....

Amen. I agree dog may need to be put down but do that humanely.

I don't know under ky law if that dog owner could e charged. However I bet the guy who beat the dog to death could be charged w animal cruelty.

Not if he's got about 8 .45 cal slugs where his chest used to be. Someone tries to hurt one of my dogs, they're going to need a lot more than a lawyer.

Again, we almost never (can count on one hand in the last several years) take any of our dogs anywhere. But I can't get over all the princesses complaining on here about seeing a dog in a Lowe's or Home Depot, or other similar store where there is no food being sold or served. For a bunch of "rural-outdoorsy type" folks, to fall all to pieces about a dog in a hardware store. Just unbelievable.

I think the fragile ones are the ones whining about SEEING a dog in a hardware store. As if it impacts them. It must be SO traumatic.

Agreed.

For a non-state board of health issue (aka store selling food or similar that's regulated by health inspector, etc), then it's up to the store owner. If he says "no dogs", then it's by all means "no dogs". If he's fine with it, doesn't object, or even welcomes dogs, that should be enough for the rest of us. Don't want to bring your dog, fine. Don't. I usually don't. If someone wants to bring their dog into a store that the owner doesn't object, then tough toenails, they get to bring them in. If that traumatizes you, seeing a dog in a Lowe's, then go home and write it down in your self-pity log.
