Dogs sneezing an issue?

Richard,
How did you make out with your dogs? I hope all is well with them.

I agree with the others.. check kennel cough.

We bout a vet checked dog from a pet store.. and it contracted kennel cough right after the vaccination.

It's true that some animals get alergies.. but this is worth checking.

Took all three of them to the vet on the hopes that at least ONE of them would sneeze like crazy. You KNOW that they only (barely) sneezed once and the vet was busy talking at that time so he missed it

Drove them home, got out of the car and all THREE of them started a sneezing convention. They could have sold some cold remedy right there on the spot.

Two of the three had their bordotella (sp?) shot about 3 months ago so the vet is/was convinced that kennel cough was NOT the issue. He's thinking allergy or something

He gave Hattie (the third and new dog) her nose spray for bordotella just for me.

He has no idea what's up. Today when I came home to take them out after work, you'd think it was a sneezing convention here...all three of them just like in the commercials, sneezing again & again & again & again like there's no tomorrow.

Oh, the vet DID give me some pills to give them. Forget what it was but I think it's more like an allergy pill to help with hay fever.

So, one vet visit & $70 later, problem not only persists, but the vet did NOT get to witness it. I've been debating on taking my digital camera & "filming" them in the morning when they're all three going at it then emailing that to him.

Back when Otis contracted his Blasto Mycosis, he wouldn't "act up" when he was at the vet. We had to take him back to the vet about 3 times before the guy finally diagnosed it (we caught it VERY early and was not showing it's symptoms on xrays much) We took videos of him gasping & stuff...finally we LEFT him at the vet for couple days so they could see him throughout the day.

I'm NOT beyond doing that again with this coughing issue if it comes to that.

Take a video! If anything, it will save the vet some time, and could get you some $$ on America's Funiest Videos, if the dogs are healthy, of course. Wouldn't want to make fun of them if they are suffering.

How is their attitude after sneezing? My dog use to wag his tail and start playing wildly and seemed very happy after his sneezing fits.

I'd suppose they're attitude is, they're taking it in stride

Wife said when she takes them out that one of them starts to take long drawn out inhales, as though she (dog) was asthmatic and unable to take a breath in. I had never seen that until last night.

Were walking them and Chloe (dog) DID start to take longgggg single draws in as though there was an obstruction in airpath. It lasted about 10 seconds and was over.

What happened? I'm not sure. The only thing I can think is she just prior to doing this was over in the longer grass of the field (I cut part of field and at the cut line you have 2" grass, verses 18" tall stuff). She likes to go into the tall stuff "for her business". As last night was the first time I've seen it, I'm not sure yet if there is a pattern involved with the tall grass (allergies perhaps?). The wife unfortunatly NEVER tries to associate reactions with prior behaviors so if Chloe ALWAYS sneezed after the tall grass, the wife simply woudln't pay attention to that timing.

Today is Chloe's first day of observation in the taller grass (hopefully with camera in hand). She's ALWAYS gone into the taller stuff so if it's allergies then it has to be something current and not always present as this has never happened to her and 'them' in general.

Too bad they can't speak and simply tell us their ailments :(

Two of our dogs had terrible allergies in the spring and fall. I know what you mean about wishing they could talk. It would make things alot easier, until they started telling you to pet them or feed them at 4:00am! A cold wet nose works just as well, I suppose.
