I found that the "pill pockets" work well. I usually only used half of one per pill.
I prefer to just give it and be done with it, but Ruger sometimes was on 5 pills per day and it got tiresome.
Those pill pockets do work.

The first few pages of this thread were right on the mark.
Like most post's with over 22 pages topics go all over the place.
I almost regret bringing this up, but some of you guys have
more experience and may be able to help me get over.......
....people that buy dogs, adopt dogs etc and have absolutely
no business owning a dog. What do I mean? Could be a single gal gets
a toy poodle, but she's still renting and her career is more
important than her dog, so give the dog away, turn it in to
a shelter etc when the girl has to move due to work and can no longer
have a pet? Maybe the girls boyfriend hates poodles, whatever.
Or the idiot that gets a Great Pyrenees, GSD, Doberman, big
Lab etc but they live in a freaking efficiency apt, same story, have to
move, no time for proper training, no time for exercise, pup is now
being destructive, etc etc
Yea, puppies are cute.
They keep the dog through the "prime" training months, then decide to
get rid of the dog. I call BS on that whole thing. Really makes me mad.
Why at this particular time am I delving into this topic? Because we
are looking for another GSD. We are looking for a male.
I have no intentions of becoming a breeder. Our female is spayed.
I don't really want to deal with a rescue, but I do appreciate those who do.
I'm too old to be chasing a runner all over the county. Mainly looking
for 8wks to 3 month max. I know. Very particular, but it's what I'm
comfortable with.
Wife checks social media, I check Craigslist. If you're still reading this
I guess this is the issue (sorry for the long post), I am amazed at how
many dogs, of all different breeds, that people are just willing to be rid of,
done with, out of sight - out of mind. Dogs become part of your family.
At least all mine have. My current GSD knows we're her people. She's
part of us. Just to throw part of your family away.....I'd probably not be
able to be civil around that type of person.
Maybe this is more of a rant. Sorry.

@1 Old Man I hear you. Many folks do do thoughtless things involving pets and other people.

Having a good dog is a journey, and finding is just the first step in that journey. Good luck to the next animal lucky enough to join your family.

All the best,

Peter

I hear you, 1 Old Man. We've had 4 GSDs now. The current one is a rescue. She was a pup when we got her. We also have a couple of Kangal(Anatolian) Shepherds. The rescue in Central Texas where we got the Kangals had a bunch of GSDs and Malanois, too. Most were grown, but you can definitely find pups, too.

Pill pockets wouldn't work for our jack Russell. He would eat the pocket and spit out the pill.

I think a permit should be required before anyone can own a dog. In neighborhoods only one dog should be allowed and the permit can be pulled if the dog is becoming an nuisance to neighbors.
I moved out of neighborhood into the country because of nimrod neighbors that couldn't control their dogs.
I won't own a dog because I don't have time for a dog. And I won't be like other nimrods who bring their stinky pets into stores and restaurants.
I wish the service classification for animals would be enforced.

Thats a pet peeve of mine. Including me having a really tough talk with my daughter after she decided to re home one of her pooches after she had a kid.

I told her she made a life long commitment to that pooch.

I get really mad at irresponsible pet owners. They move out to the country and just let their pooch run loose and do what ever.

And then when confronted.... they reply "oh.... well we are out in the country!!!"

My reply, well I wouldn't let them get into the cow pasture and harass the cows. That won't end well for the pooch or you.

Then they get all offended

Dogs in my area that run loose, tear up trash or harass neighbors normally don't live long. I've seen a few FB pages on my local group where people complain about their dog missing.
