Dogs.

I have a friend who is a retired k-9 cop from Philadelphia, now working with people to break the bad habits they have taught their dogs. The biggest thing is to practice what they teach.

I just didn't have the time or interest to train a dog last fall.

That’s why I like the classes. 1 hour each week.

I looked at a 4 YO yellow lab at the shelter and took him for a walk. Even after being there for several weeks I could tell that he was easily trainable but also realized I wasn't ready for another dog. He also had some toenail issues which made me nervous. I felt very guilty about not taking him but it just didn't feel right.

So I bought a telescope that day instead.

I feel guilty because this GSD mix apparently expects some commands from me besides the usual "sit" etc, but I haven't figured out what they are? Plus, she is obsessed with car rides, but I limit her riding to when it is necessary to visit the vet.

If you only take her for rides to bad places like the vet she may learn to hate the car? Throw in a few joy rides.
And teach some new commands like heel and fetch. Sit can be worked into down and stay.

Don't underestimate her, some dogs are pretty smart.

My first dog hit the shifter on my Dakota, which had just enough slop for it to shift out of park. Luckily it didn't roll far, or into anything.
On at least one other occasion she locked me out. Once I got an extended cab she learned to stay in the backseat, so no more problems.

I left my dog in the truck while I fueled it up only to find she locked the doors while watching me....
I had to dance back and forth at the window to get her to dance back and forth enough to finally step on the button again.
I'll bet people watching were like look at that fool teasing that poor dog.
